PCOS Treatment

There's no test to definitively diagnose PCOS. Your doctor is likely to start with a discussion of your medical history, including your menstrual periods and weight changes. A physical exam will include checking for signs of excess hair growth, insulin resistance and acne.

Your doctor might then recommend:

A pelvic exam. The doctor visually and manually inspects your reproductive organs for masses, growths or other abnormalities.
Blood tests. Your blood may be analyzed to measure hormone levels. This testing can exclude possible causes of menstrual abnormalities or androgen excess that mimics PCOS. You might have additional blood testing to measure glucose tolerance and fasting cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
An ultrasound. Your doctor checks the appearance of your ovaries and the thickness of the lining of your uterus. A wandlike device (transducer) is placed in your va**na (transva**nal ultrasound). The transducer emits sound waves that are translated into images on a computer screen.
If you have a diagnosis of PCOS, your doctor might recommend additional tests for complications. Those tests can include:

Periodic checks of blood pressure, glucose tolerance, and cholesterol and triglyceride levels
Screening for depression and anxiety
Screening for obstructive sleep apnea

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years. Also called leiomyomas (lie-o-my-O-muhs) or myomas, uterine fibroids aren't associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never develop into cancer.

Fibroids range in size from seedlings, undetectable by the human eye, to bulky masses that can distort and enlarge the uterus. You can have a single fibroid or multiple ones. In extreme cases, multiple fibroids can expand the uterus so much that it reaches the rib cage and can add weight.

Many women have uterine fibroids sometime during their lives. But you might not know you have uterine fibroids because they often cause no symptoms. Your doctor may discover fibroids incidentally during a pelvic exam or prenatal ultrasound

Symptoms
Many women who have fibroids don't have any symptoms. In those that do, symptoms can be influenced by the location, size and number of fibroids.

In women who have symptoms, the most common signs and symptoms of uterine fibroids include:

Heavy menstrual bleeding
Menstrual periods lasting more than a week
Pelvic pressure or pain
Frequent urination
Difficulty emptying the bladder
Constipation
Backache or leg pains

What is IUI?

Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a simple procedure that puts s***m directly inside your uterus, which helps healthy s***m get closer to your egg.

How does IUI work?
IUI stands for in intrauterine insemination. It’s also sometimes called donor insemination, alternative insemination, or artificial insemination. IUI works by putting s***m cells directly into your uterus around the time you’re ovulating, helping the s***m get closer to your egg. This cuts down on the time and distance s***m has to travel, making it easier to fertilize your egg.

Before having the insemination procedure, you may take fertility medicines that stimulate ovulation. Semen is collected from your partner or a donor. It goes through a process called “s***m washing” that collects a concentrated amount of healthy s***m from the semen.

Then your doctor puts the s***m right into your uterus. Pregnancy happens if s***m fertilizes your egg, and the fertilized egg implants in the lining of your uterus.

IUI is a simple and low-tech procedure, and it can be less expensive than other types of fertility treatments. It increases your chances of pregnancy, but everyone’s body is different, so there’s no guarantee that IUI will work.

Gynecologists are doctors who specialize in women's health, with a focus on the female reproductive system.

They deal with a wide range of issues, including obstetrics, or pregnancy and childbirth, menstruation and fertility issues, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), hormone disorders, and others.

Here are some key points about gynecologists. More detail is in the main article.

A gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in the health of the female organs.
Many women start visiting a gynecologist from their early teens and continue to attend a well-woman clinic for general health issues too.
Women are advised to visit a gynecologist annually for a checkup, and any time they have symptoms that concern them.

Gynecologist, Obstetricians Play Important Role Throughout Woman’s Life.
Gynecologists and obstetricians play a vital role in a woman’s health, which is why it’s important that she finds one she can trust and partner with to care for her specific needs.

A gynecologist specializes in the medical care of women and their reproductive system whereas an obstetrician focuses on the health of a mother and her baby during pregnancy, birth and post-natal care. A woman may choose to see a physician known as an OB/Gyn, which is an acronym for physicians who specialize in obstetrics and gynecology.

Diabetes and Pregnancy
Women who have diabetes before they get pregnant have special health concerns. In addition to the new demands that a pregnancy will put on your body, it will also affect your blood sugar levels and diabetes medications.

If you're thinking about having a baby, take steps to lessen the risks for both you and your child.

Get Ready
A pre-conception counseling appointment will help you be physically and emotionally prepared for pregnancy.

Meet with your doctor to find out if your diabetes is controlled well enough for you to stop your birth control method. A blood test called the glycosylated hemoglobin test (HbA1c, or just A1c) can show how well it's been going over the past 8 to 12 weeks.

Other medical tests can help prevent complications during pregnancy:

Urinalysis to check for kidney problems
Cholesterol and triglyceride blood tests
Eye exam to see if you have glaucoma, cataracts, or retinopathy
Electrocardiogram
Blood work to make sure your kidneys and liver are working
Foot exam

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing s***m inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate fertilization. The goal of IUI is to increase the number of s***m that reach the fallopian tubes and subsequently increase the chance of fertilization.
IUI provides the s***m an advantage by giving it a head start but still requires a s***m to reach and fertilize the egg on its own. It is a less invasive and less expensive option compared to In Vitro Fertilization.

How successful is IUI?
The success of IUI depends on several factors. If a couple has the IUI procedure performed each month, success rates may reach as high as 20% per cycle depending on variables such as female age, the reason for infertility, and whether fertility drugs were used, among other variables.

Pregnancy-Related Hypertension
If you develop high blood pressure when you’re pregnant, you have gestational hypertension. Usually it starts after you've been pregnant for about 20 weeks, and it goes away after your baby is born.

How It May Affect You and Your Baby
Even with gestational hypertension, you have a good chance of having a healthy pregnancy and baby since most women with this condition do. But high blood pressure can damage your kidneys and other organs. It also increases your chances of high blood pressure or heart disease and of having a stroke after your pregnancy or later in life.

Having high blood pressure reduces blood flow to the placenta, meaning it can’t deliver all the oxygen and nutrients your baby needs. That can slow your baby’s growth, which can cause your baby to be born small. Most babies can catch up on their growth by a few months after birth, but it's healthier if they are born at a normal weight.
