22/03/2019
World water day is held on 22nd March every year. The United Nations General Assembly officially designated March 22 as World Water Day in 1993. This is to underline the importance of clean and safe water for all. Safe and clean water is not only one of our most basic necessities (drinking water for survival), but also required to avoid illness, for sanitation and thus to stay healthy, extremely important for agriculture, used to cook food, etc.
Hence, it is the core of our existence. This reiterates the fact that everyone has a right to clean and safe water and sanitation.
According to World Water Development Report, 2019, three in ten people (2.1 billion) did not have access to safe drinking water and 4.5 billion people, or six in ten, had no safely managed sanitation facilities in the year 2015. The theme for this year’s world water day is “Leaving no one behind!”
So let us all pledge to save water and take constructive steps towards it.
