Often it is believed that teeth cleaning will cause gaps between the teeth. Though this seems true, it is not the teeth cleaning which creates gaps, it is the negligence of oral hygiene which creates the gaps. When one does not brush properly, there is calculus/tartar which gets deposited on the teeth. These deposits push the gums further down by resorbing the bone and the space created by pushing the gums down is occupied by these tartar. During cleaning, dentist removes these tartar and thus the gaps are seen. Though the cleaning itself has not caused the gaps, it only appears after removal of the deposits. If these deposits are not removed from the teeth it will further push the gums down and may eventually lead to tooth loss.
Getting regular dental check up and keeping the teeth and gums clean and healthy can prevent tooth loss. Unhealthy gums always bleed and may cause bad breath. It may also contribute to other diseases in the body.
