एंडोमेट्रियम गर्भ (गर्भाशय) की परत है। यदि यह परत बहुत मोटी हो जाए तो पॉलीप्स बन सकते हैं। पॉलीप्स उंगली जैसी वृद्धि होती है जो गर्भाशय की दीवार से जुड़ी होती है। वे आकार में तिल के बीज से लेकर गोल्फ की गेंद जितने बड़े आकार के हो सकते हैं। एक या कई पॉलीप्स हो सकते हैं।
महिलाओं में एंडोमेट्रियल पॉलीप्स का एक अज्ञात कारण होता है। जब शरीर में हार्मोन एस्ट्रोजन की अधिक मात्रा होती है तो वे बढ़ने लगते हैं।

अधिकांश एंडोमेट्रियल पॉलीप्स कैंसर नहीं होते हैं। उनमें से केवल एक छोटा प्रतिशत कैंसर या पूर्व कैंसर हो सकता है। The endometrium is the lining of the womb (uterus). Polyps can form if this lining grows too thick. Polyps are finger-like growths that attach to the uterine wall. They can range in size from as small as a sesame seed to as large as a golf ball. There could be one or several polyps.
Endometrial polyps in women have an unknown cause. They tend to grow when there is a higher concentration of the hormone oestrogen in the body.

The majority of endometrial polyps are not cancerous. Only a small percentage of them can be cancerous or precancerous.
