As a Medical Oncologist, I’ve noticed that to***co habits rarely start with to***co itself. They often start with a trigger

-Stress,

-A chai break

-A Morning routine

-A moment that slowly becomes a habit.

This No To***co Day, don’t just focus on quitting. Focus on understanding why the habit begins.

To***co is linked to cancers of the mouth, food pipe (esophagus), and lungs.

And sometimes, your body gives early warning signs that should not be ignored.

-Persistent mouth ulcers

-Persistent cough,

-Breathlessness or Hoarseness of Voice

-Difficulty swallowing

Pay Attention!!

Awareness is not just about knowing the risks. It is about taking action at the right time.

Did you know that your family history can sometimes tell us a lot about your risk of breast and ovarian cancer?

I’d like to talk about BRCA, a gene that normally helps repair damaged cells and keeps our body functioning properly.

Sometimes, changes or mutations in BRCA genes can increase the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancers. Knowing about this early can help us understand risk better and take informed steps when needed.

*You may consider a BRCA assessment if:*

1)You have a family history of breast, ovarian, or related cancers

2)You have been diagnosed with breast cancer, especially at a younger age

3) You have ovarian cancer

4) Multiple family members in your family have had cancer

5) You are concerned about inherited cancer risk

**Some common scenarios for genetic assessment :*

1) I’m a breast cancer survivor and tested BRCA positive. Could my children or siblings also be at risk?

2) My aunt or close family member had BRCA-positive ovarian cancer. Could I also be at risk?

3) My grandmother had BRCA-positive breast cancer. When should I consider getting assessed?

4) Several women in my family have had breast or ovarian cancer. Should I understand my inherited risk?

5) I don’t have symptoms, but cancer runs in my family. Should I still get assessed?

6) I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age. Should I consider BRCA testing?

7) If you have already undergone mutation testing, please carry your reports so we can better understand your situation.

Understanding your family history can help answer important questions and provide more clarity about your health and your family’s health.

To get your genetic risk assessed visit the closest M|O|C Cancer Care Centre for a free consultation between 27th May 2026 to 15th June 2026.

Cervical cancer is largely preventable with the right awareness and timely intervention.
One important, often overlooked aspect is maintaining proper vaginal hygiene during periods. Simple practices like changing sanitary products regularly, keeping the area clean and dry, and using safe, hygienic menstrual products can significantly reduce the risk of infections that may contribute to long-term health issues.
At MOC Cancer Care & Research Centre, our focus remains on preventive oncology and patient education ensuring individuals are empowered with the right knowledge to make informed health decisions.
Prevention is not complex… it begins with awareness.
