📍“Bash Dua” (also called ‘Bachh Dua’) is a very special **Dogra cultural ritual** celebrated mainly in Jammu, Himachal’s hilly belts, and some parts of Punjab. It is deeply connected with **mothers, fertility, and the well-being of children.**
Meaning & Purpose:
* The word “Bacch” literally means child/calf, and “Dua” means blessing or prayer.
* So, Bacch Dua is a ritual where mothers pray for the long life, health, and prosperity of their children (both human kids and cattle calves - since cattle were very important in Dogra households).
* It’s also linked to fertility and ensuring that women who wish for children are blessed.
🪔Rituals & Practices:
* Women (especially mothers) observe a fast on this day.
* They prepare traditional items-Rutt (sweet rotis), soaked black grams, calf-shaped idols made of wheat dough (as practiced during Vatsa Dwadashi/Bacch Dua), tied threads, and small puja arrangements and offer them to the deity.
* Cow and calf are also worshipped, as cows are considered sacred and symbolize motherhood.
* In the evening, after offering prayers, food is distributed among family and neighbors.
Cultural Belief:
* It is believed that by doing Bacch Dua, the “Duggar Mata” (regional mother goddess) blesses children with protection.
* It’s also said that this ritual strengthens the bond between mother and child, ensuring both human children and livestock remain healthy.
It’s a very warm, community-oriented ritual - with women singing *dogri folk songs* while doing the puja.🌿
