Mr. Joseph Mwangi Kamau traveled from Nairobi, Kenya, to Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, in search of a solution for a critical heart condition. He was suffering from severe aortic valve narrowing and a leaking mitral valve, a situation made even more complex by a past history of tuberculosis that had severely damaged his right lung and displaced his heart. Due to these complications, traditional open heart surgery was ruled out as a high risk option.

Under the collaborative care of Dr. Gautam Naik, Clinic Lead, Structural Heart Intervention Programme, and Dr. Mukesh Goel, Senior Consultant, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, a specialized plan was formed. The team first addressed an abnormal connection in his lung vessels before performing a successful TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement) using the advanced Edwards Ultra Resilia 29mm valve. This minimally invasive approach allowed Mr. Joseph to recover quickly and safely. Today, he is back to breathing easily and enjoying a renewed quality of life!
