Small cuts. Big history. Two daughters. One One liver transplant. One life saved.
A 51 year old patient from Kyrgyzstan with end stage liver disease had exhausted all treatment options. A single liver graft was not sufficient to save his life, so two of his daughters stepped forward as living donors.
At Fortis Hospital Noida, a team led by Dr Vivek Vij, Chairman, Liver Transplant & Hepatobiliary Sciences, successfully performed the world's first laparoscopic dual lobe living donor liver transplant.
In this landmark procedure, both living donor surgeries were performed using a minimally invasive laparoscopic approach, helping reduce pain, blood loss, hospital stay, and recovery time while maintaining the highest standards of donor safety.
The recipient's transplant was completed successfully, both donors recovered well, and all three were discharged in stable condition.
This achievement is more than a world first. It represents the power of innovation, surgical excellence, and a family's extraordinary courage to give a loved one a second chance at life.
Today, one family has hope restored. Tomorrow, this breakthrough could transform liver transplantation for patients around the world.
