In Ayurveda, psoriasis is not referred to by its modern name. Instead, it is classified under Kustha Roga (a broad term for chronic skin disorders) and is most commonly identified by the specific disease tags or names:
Shodhana Chikitsa (Detoxification)
Because psoriasis is considered a deep-rooted metabolic issue, purification is often the first line of defense to remove accumulated toxins.
Snehapana: Administration of medicated ghee (like Guggulu Tiktaka Ghrita or Mahatikitaka Ghrita) in increasing doses to loosen toxins.
Vamana (Emesis): Indicated primarily if Kapha dosha is dominant (characterized by thick scales, itching).
Virechana (Purgation): Indicated if Pitta dosha is highly involved (characterized by redness, burning sensations, and inflammation). This is one of the most common therapies used for psoriasis.
