Fact: It can be seen in a newborn baby as well

Fact: Both boys and girls can have hernia

What is an epigastric hernia? | hernia repair

An epigastric hernia is a bulging of tissue or fat that occurs in the midline of the abdominal wall, between the chest and belly button. This type of hernia occurs when the fibrous tissue of the abdomen does not close all the way during development, therefore leaving a defect.

Visible/Palpable Bulge: A small, soft lump in the middle of the upper stomach, often just below the ribs.

Pain and Discomfort: Ranging from a constant dull ache to sharp, stabbing pains, particularly when straining, coughing, sneezing, or lifting heavy objects.

Intermittent Appearance: The hernia may appear only when abdominal pressure increases (standing, coughing) and disappear when resting or lying down (reducible).

Tenderness: The area surrounding the lump may feel tender or sore to the touch.

Digestive Issues: Occasionally, symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, or a feeling of fullness.

The emotional impact of bedwetting

Bedwetting may have an emotional impact on both children and their families. Children may get embarrassed, feel anxious, or develop low self-esteem. This can affect their relationships, quality of life, and schoolwork.

Children with bedwetting may feel like they cannot go to sleepovers with their friends or overnight camps. Siblings may have to sleep in separate rooms or be woken up when the parent or bedwetting alarm wakes the affected child. Family members may have the extra work of cleaning the dirty sheets and clothes.

Hydrocele repair (child)

A hydrocele is a swelling around the testicle caused by a collection of fluid. It is a common problem in children.

What are the benefits of surgery?

Your child should no longer have the hydrocele. Surgery should prevent your child from having discomfort or embarrassment caused by having the hydrocele or it getting larger as he gets older. In some cases hydroceles become hernias so the procedure will stop this from happening.

A hydrocele is a common condition where fluid collects around a testicle. Surgery is usually recommended if a hydrocele continues beyond the second year of life. If left untreated, a hydrocele can get larger and is unlikely to get better.

TONGUE-TIE SURGERY

The surgery should be considered at around 8-10 months of age, preferably before the child learns to speak.

There would be slurring of speech that would take time to get corrected. So before the child develops, the condition should be corrected.
Generally, the surgery is performed using a bipolar cautery where the frenulum is cauterized (burnt) using a controlled current. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts for 5 minutes.

Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) in Children

Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) is a condition in children where urine flows backward from the bladder into the ureters and sometimes into the kidneys. This backward flow can lead to recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and kidney damage if left untreated.

Symptoms of VUR may include frequent UTIs, bedwetting, and pain during urination. In some cases, children may also experience abdominal pain.
