TW: emotional abuse, su***de

Twisha Sharma is gone. And somewhere in the coverage, there’s a narrative being built around calling her — “emotionally unstable”, “drug addict”, “Schizophrenic”

That’s how it works..

Emotional abuse isolates you first — from your support system, from people who might reflect reality back to you. Then it systematically dismantles your trust in your own perception. Small contradictions. Denials of things that happened. Your emotional responses framed as overreactions, as instability, as proof that you are the problem.

Over time, you stop trusting what you saw, what you felt, what you remember.
So by the time you’re suffering — visibly, measurably — your own testimony about why has already been undermined. Your distress becomes evidence against you, not against what was done to you.

Our society and our legal systems weren’t built for any of this — No bruise to photograph. No injury report.

Survivors are handed the impossible task of proving invisible damage while already fighting the thing that made self-trust hardest in the first place.

“Sometimes I wish he had hit me. So I could stand in court and say, see these marks.”

This is what that looks like from the inside.
Emotional abuse leaves severe psychological scars. It changes how you process threat, safety, reality. That damage takes years to unlearn. It is not less serious than physical abuse.
It kills people.

Twisha deserved to be believed. Twisha didn’t deserve to be blamed for not leaving soon enough.

Attunement is not about getting it right.
It is about staying present when things are unclear.

After sexual trauma, safety is often built in moments where
nothing is said — but something shifts.

Attunement means noticing that shift,
and responding without taking control.

It creates space for agency,
without pressure to explain.

And in that space —
safety begins to emerge.

No one teaches us how to listen to a partner’s nervous system.

When someone you love has experienced sexual trauma, safety isn’t always something they can explain or reason through.
It’s a bodily experience — and one they may still be learning to recognise themselves.

Because of this, communication doesn’t always come through words.
It often comes through the body.

Supporting someone after a safety violation isn’t about reassurance, fixing, or pushing for clarity.
It’s about recognising when the body is communicating a limit — and responding in ways that don’t increase pressure.

This post is about helping partners recognise those cues,
so connection doesn’t unintentionally become another place where safety is lost.

When the nervous system has lived in survival, it will mistake intensity for intimacy.

Healing isn’t about avoiding relationships — it’s about regulating the one you have with yourself.

When you feel safe inside your body, you stop chasing urgency...
and start choosing compatibility.

And that quiet shift — is where the cycle ends.

Your body isn’t resisting healing — it’s protecting the version of you that once needed those defences.

Healing doesn’t mean silencing those instincts.
It means letting them know they don’t have to work so hard anymore.

You’re not starting over —
you’re just teaching safety to a body that once had to survive everything.
