6 common Blood Tests which I always ask my Patients to get it done before the treatment
1. Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Detects anemia (low hemoglobin), infection (high WBC), or clotting issues (platelets).
Low hemoglobin patient may fatigue quickly, needing modified exercise intensity.
Low platelets avoid aggressive manual therapy or invasive techniques due to bleeding risk.
2. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) /C-Reactive Protein (CRP)
Indicators of inflammation or infection.
Elevated values may suggest underlying inflammatory conditions (RA, ankylosing spondylitis) or flare-ups where intense exercise may need postponing.
3. Blood Glucose (Fasting / HbA1c)
Crucial for diabetic patients undergoing rehabilitation.
Uncontrolled sugars increase risk of delayed healing, neuropathy, and hypoglycemic episodes during exercise.
4.) Vitamin D (25-Hydroxy Vitamin D)
Essential for bone health, calcium absorption, and muscle function.
Low vitamin D increased risk of osteoporosis, fractures, muscle weakness, and chronic pain syndromes.
Deficiency may delay recovery in post-fracture, post-surgery, or elderly patients.
Supplementation and weight-bearing exercises become priority.
5.) Vitamin B12
Vital for nerve health and red blood cell formation.
Deficiency peripheral neuropathy, tingling, numbness, balance issues, cognitive changes.
Common in vegetarians/vegans and elderly.
Nerve healing & proprioception training may need to be emphasized.
6.) Serum Calcium
Key for muscle contraction, nerve transmission, bone strength, and clotting.
Low calcium muscle cramps, tetany, bone fragility.
High calcium fatigue, confusion, muscle weakness (often linked to parathyroid or cancer).
