⚡ Seizures: Know the Signs. Save a Life. ⚡

A seizure can happen to anyone, at any age. Knowing how to recognize the symptoms and respond correctly can make a significant difference during an emergency.

🧠 Common Causes of Seizures
• Epilepsy
• High fever (especially in children)
• Head injury
• Brain infections or stroke
• Low blood sugar
• Electrolyte imbalance
• Certain medications or alcohol withdrawal

⚠️ Common Symptoms
• Sudden loss of consciousness
• Uncontrolled jerking or shaking of the arms and legs
• Staring blankly or becoming unresponsive
• Confusion after the episode
• Temporary loss of awareness
• Difficulty speaking or remembering what happened

✅ What To Do During a Seizure
• Stay calm and note the time the seizure starts.
• Gently move dangerous objects away from the person.
• Turn the person onto their side once the jerking stops to help keep the airway clear.
• Place something soft under their head.
• Loosen tight clothing around the neck.
• Stay with the person until they are fully awake and alert.

❌ What NOT To Do
• Do not put anything in their mouth.
• Do not try to hold them down or stop their movements.
• Do not give food, water, or medicine until they are fully conscious.

🚨 Call Emergency Medical Services Immediately If:
• The seizure lasts more than 5 minutes.
• Another seizure starts before the person regains consciousness.
• It is the person's first seizure.
• The person has difficulty breathing after the seizure.
• The seizure occurs in water.
• The person is pregnant, has diabetes, or suffers a serious injury during the seizure.

💙 Remember: Most seizures stop on their own within a few minutes. Staying calm, protecting the person from injury, and knowing when to seek emergency medical help can save lives.

Awareness. Prompt Action. Better Outcomes.
