Does Your Child Really Need a Heavy Breakfast Before School?

Many parents insist on parathas, milk, or a heavy meal before school, even when the child isn’t hungry.

Instead of forcing food:

• Follow your child’s hunger cues
• Offer a simple, nutritious breakfast
• Avoid making mealtimes stressful
• Pack a healthy snack for later if needed

The goal is to build healthy eating habits, not force a child to eat more than they need.

Too Much Screen Time Can Affect Their Behaviour & Development

Children learn and develop through interaction, play, reading, and real-world experiences.
Excessive screen time can reduce opportunities for these important activities.

Encourage more of:

• Reading together
• Age-appropriate play
• Talking and interacting
• Outdoor activities
• Quality family time

The goal is not to eliminate screens completely, but to create a healthy balance and be mindful of what your child is watching.

Save this as a reminder to make more time for real-world interaction.

What Gentle Parenting Really Means

Gentle parenting is not about allowing every behaviour or saying yes to every demand. It is about responding calmly while still setting boundaries and keeping your child safe.

A child can have a choice—but that choice should be appropriate for their age and safe for them.

For example, if a child wants to do something dangerous, gentle parenting does not mean allowing it. The parent’s role is to set the limit and explain why.

The balance is simple:
Respect their feelings. Guide their choices. Keep them safe.

Messy Eating Can Be Part of Healthy Development

Once babies start exploring solid foods, touching, squishing, and making a mess while eating can actually be part of learning.

Allowing children to explore food and feed themselves helps them become familiar with different textures and develop independent eating skills.

A little mess today can be a step toward better eating habits tomorrow.

Finger foods are an important part of learning to eat.

As babies grow, allowing them to handle and explore food can help them become more comfortable with different textures, tastes, and feeding experiences.

Instead of always feeding with a spoon, offer age-appropriate, soft finger foods such as boiled potato or banana and allow your child to explore and eat independently.

The goal is not just to fill their tummy—it’s also to help them develop healthy eating skills and confidence.

Always ensure foods are prepared appropriately for the child’s age and supervise them while eating.

Can Helicopter Parenting Affect Your Child’s Development?

Constantly telling a child what to do, what not to do, and how to do things may seem like guidance.

But when parents continuously hover over every action, it can create pressure and restrict a child’s natural development.

Children need the freedom to explore, make mistakes, and learn while receiving appropriate guidance from their parents.

Support your child’s growth without controlling every step.

Is your baby getting enough Vitamin D?

Breast milk provides many essential nutrients, but Vitamin D may not be sufficient on its own to meet an infant’s needs.

That’s why Vitamin D supplementation is commonly recommended during infancy, especially for exclusively breastfed babies.

The right dose and duration should be decided by your pediatrician based on your baby’s needs.

📌 Don’t start or change supplements without medical guidance.

Does your baby need supplements after 6 months?

Not every child needs extra supplements. As babies grow, their nutritional needs change, and iron supplementation may be considered in some cases, depending on their diet, Hb levels, iron status and overall health.

After 1 year, the focus should be on a well-balanced, nutrient-rich diet that provides the micronutrients your child needs.

Supplements should be based on your child’s individual needs—not given routinely.

Always consult your pediatrician before starting any supplement.

WHEN DOES A BABY’S SKULL CLOSE? 👶🧠

A baby’s skull is designed to remain flexible after birth — allowing the brain to grow rapidly during the first years of life.

🍼 0–1 month: Fontanelles are open and soft
🌱 3–6 months: Gradual changes begin
👶 6–12 months: Fontanelles continue to become smaller
✨ 12–18 months: They gradually become firmer
💛 18–24 months: The anterior fontanelle commonly closes

Remember: Every baby grows at their own pace. The timing can vary, so your baby’s development should always be assessed as a whole.

If you notice a persistently bulging or markedly sunken fontanelle, unusual head shape, or concerns about head growth, speak with your pediatrician.

A 1.5-year-old girl was brought to the OPD with severe pain in her right arm and was not moving it.

On examination, she was diagnosed with Pulled Elbow (Nursemaid’s Elbow). A reduction maneuver was performed in the OPD, and the elbow was successfully restored.

Soon after the procedure, she started moving her arm again.

If your child suddenly stops using an arm after a pull or jerk, get it assessed promptly.
