As the department of prepares for an upcoming discussion on Research Methodology, this Journal Club was designed to strengthen the fundamentals of evidence-based research. Dr. Md Moshahid (PG Scholar, Batch 2K23–24) delivered an exceptional presentation that not only critically appraised the selected systematic review and meta-analysis but also simplified the core concepts of research methodology, making the session highly informative for all PG scholars.

This Journal Club consisted of two separate presentations: the first day covered journal details and publication info, while the second day focused on the selected research paper—including its pros, cons, and suggestions for improvement.

🔎 Highlights of the Presentation

The first part covered the journal's metrics, indexing, and abstracting databases in detail. It also included an in-depth discussion on the difference between a systematic review and a meta-analysis, as the selected article was a systematic review cm meta-analysis.

~ The presenter masterly explained the fundamentals of Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis, emphasizing their role as the highest level of scientific evidence.

👏 One of the most engaging and well-delivered Journal Club presentations, Dr. Moshahid's ability to simplify complex research methods while maintaining scientific depth was highly appreciated by faculty members and fellow scholars alike.

The presentation was thoughtfully prepared and successfully delivered under the valuable guidance of Dr. Md. Tanwir Alam Tanveer Hkm (HoD) and Dr. Malka Baland Akhtar Mam. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation and enriching discussions among scholars from various departments.

A Century of Legacy: Bihar’s Two Historic Medical Colleges Complete 100 Years

July 2026 marks the Centenary Year of Bihar’s two oldest institutions of traditional medical education, Rajkiya Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Patna, and Government Tibbi College, Patna. These institutions were established by the Government of Bihar and Orissa on 26 July 1926 and 29 July 1926, respectively.

At the time, Sir Ganesh Dutt Singh served as the Minister in charge of Public Health and Local Self-Government, while Sir Syed Muhammad Fakhruddin was the Minister of Education.

In May 1926, the Ministry of Local Self-Government announced the establishment of an Ayurvedic College and a Tibbi (Unani) College in Patna with the objective of providing organized and institutional education in India’s traditional systems of medicine.

Key Features at the Time of Establishment

* Both colleges commenced their academic sessions in July 1926.
* The Ayurvedic College offered a 5-year course, while the Tibbi College offered a 4-year course.
* Each institution admitted 40 students annually.
* Admission to the Ayurvedic College required candidates to qualify through an entrance examination, whereas the Tibbi College admitted eligible students without such a test.
* The Government constituted separate seven-member Governing Bodies to oversee the administration of both colleges.
