JIPMER Women & Children’s Hospital Receives LaQshya Platinum Certification for the Second Consecutive Year

The Women and Children’s Hospital (WCH), JIPMER, has once again been awarded the Platinum Certification under the Government of India’s LaQshya Programme, marking the second consecutive year of this recognition.

The WCH achieved exceptional scores of 99.5% and 99% in the renewal assessment, reflecting the team’s continued commitment to safe, respectful, and high-quality maternal and newborn care.

The certification recognises JIPMER’s efforts in patient safety, infection prevention and control, emergency preparedness, standardised clinical practices, and respectful maternity care.

With 800–900 deliveries every month and its role as a major referral centre for high-risk pregnancies, JIPMER continues to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary care to mothers and newborns.

JIPMER Launches Universal Newborn Screening Programme

JIPMER has inaugurated the Universal Newborn Screening (NBS) Programme and a dedicated Newborn Screening Laboratory, marking an important step towards strengthening preventive healthcare for newborns.

The programme will ensure that eligible newborns delivered at JIPMER are screened soon after birth for selected congenital disorders. Early identification enables timely treatment and can help prevent lifelong disability, improving health outcomes for children.

The initiative has been jointly established by the Departments of Biochemistry and Neonatology and reflects JIPMER's continued commitment to providing evidence-based, high-quality care for every newborn.

💧 JIPMER Concludes Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026

As part of the nationwide Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, JIPMER successfully conducted a two-month public health initiative from 1 June to 31 July 2026 to promote diarrhoea prevention and improve child health.

The campaign combined hospital-based awareness programmes, community outreach, caregiver training, school awareness activities, and innovative public engagement initiatives to spread key messages on hand hygiene, safe drinking water, ORS, Zinc supplementation, sanitation, and nutrition.

By empowering families, caregivers, and communities with life-saving knowledge, JIPMER continues to strengthen preventive child healthcare and support the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

🎶 JIPMER Promotes Breastfeeding Awareness Through Villu Paatu

As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026, JIPMER organised a Villu Paatu awareness programme at the JIPMER Women and Children Hospital to promote the importance of breastfeeding among pregnant women, postnatal mothers, families, and the public.

Using the power of traditional folk art, the programme highlighted key messages on early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, continued breastfeeding with complementary feeding, and maternal nutrition.

Organised by the Department of Nursing, College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Departments of Neonatology, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, the event brought health education closer to the community in an engaging and meaningful way.

World Breastfeeding Week 2026 at JIPMER
Theme: "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works."

JIPMER inaugurated the World Breastfeeding Week 2026 celebrations with an Awareness Rally at the JIPMER Women and Children Hospital (JWCH), marking the beginning of a week-long series of awareness activities from 1–7 August 2026.

The rally was flagged off by Dr. Saka Vinod kumar, Medical Superintendent, JIPMER, and Dr. Adhisivam B, Professor, Department of Neonatology, in the presence of faculty, nursing officers, nursing students, and healthcare professionals.

Participants carried placards promoting the importance of:
🍼 Early initiation of breastfeeding
🤱 Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months
👶 Continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary feeding

Throughout the week, JIPMER will organize health education sessions, poster and rangoli competitions, role plays, Villu Paatu, quiz competitions, seminars, and interactive awareness programmes to promote optimal maternal and child health.

JIPMER had the privilege of hosting Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, for an inspirational interaction with young researchers, postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty members.

Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Inspires Students at JIPMER's MY Bharat Youth Programme

JIPMER hosted the MY Bharat (Mera Yuva Bharat) Youth Programme, an inspiring initiative aimed at encouraging young citizens to actively participate in nation-building through leadership, volunteerism, innovation, and community engagement.

The programme was graced by Shri K. Kailashnathan, IAS (Retd.), Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, who interacted with students and emphasized the vital role of youth in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. He encouraged students to uphold leadership, integrity, discipline, and selfless service while contributing meaningfully to society.

An engaging interactive session gave students the opportunity to discuss leadership, public service, career development, and nation-building with the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor.

JIPMER Conducts a One-of-a-Kind Awareness Programme for Caregivers of Child Care Institutions under the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026

As part of the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the Department of Paediatrics, JIPMER, organised a unique awareness programme for House Mothers and House Fathers from 35 Child Care Institutions (CCIs) across Puducherry.

Conducted on 22 July 2026 at the Thiyaga Jyoti Community Development Center, Thattanchavady, with the support of the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Puducherry, the programme equipped caregivers with essential knowledge and practical skills to prevent and manage childhood diarrhoea.

Participants received hands-on training on:

Hand hygiene and safe sanitation practices
Safe food and drinking water
Preparation and administration of WHO Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS)
Zinc supplementation
Recognition of dehydration and danger signs
Use of home-available fluids
Timely referral to healthcare facilities

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director, JIPMER, and Dr. Saka Vinod Kumar, Medical Superintendent, JIPMER. It was coordinated by Dr. Gunasekaran D., Professor & Head, Department of Paediatrics, Dr. Darshan R., Assistant Professor & Nodal Officer, Stop Diarrhoea Campaign, and Dr. Nancy Premkumar, Social Service Officer, with support from the Department of Nursing, JIPMER.

Through this initiative, JIPMER reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening preventive child healthcare by empowering caregivers with life-saving knowledge and skills to protect vulnerable children from diarrhoeal diseases.

Simple measures like handwashing, safe drinking water, ORS, and zinc can save children's lives.

Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Clinical Immunology Laboratory at JIPMER
JIPMER welcomed the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Shri K. Kailashnathan, IAS (Retd.), who virtually inaugurated the Institute's State-of-the-Art Clinical Immunology Laboratory.
The advanced facility is the only Government healthcare centre in South India offering comprehensive in-house diagnostics and translational research for autoimmune diseases under one roof. It is equipped with cutting-edge technologies for autoimmune testing, molecular diagnostics, HLA typing, advanced flow cytometry, cell imaging, and translational research, significantly enhancing precision diagnosis and patient care.
During the visit, the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor also: ✔️ Reviewed the proposed JIPMER Sedarapet Expansion Project ✔️ Visited the Institute's Sewage Treatment Plant to review sustainability initiatives ✔️ Participated in the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" tree plantation campaign, reaffirming the commitment to environmental conservation.
The occasion marks another important milestone in JIPMER's journey towards excellence in healthcare, medical research, innovation, and sustainable development.
