I often post my recent photos on social media.
But today, I found a photo that means much more than any recent picture.
It's an old photo of me sitting in front of my father's small kirana shop in our village.
Looking at it took me back to a life that many people may never see behind the photos.
Whenever someone asks me, "What does your father do?"
I proudly say, "He runs a small grocery shop."
Then comes the next question:
"Oh, so your family must have farmland too?"
No.
"Any other business?"
No.
Just one small kirana shop.
The same shop that opened every morning before most people woke up. The same shop that stayed open when festivals came and went. The same shop that silently carried the weight of an entire family's dreams.
In 2011, my mother started a small grocery stall from our home to support the family.
No fancy business. No investments. No backup income.
Just two hardworking people standing behind a counter every day.
As a child, I never understood their sacrifices.
I only knew that sometimes we couldn't buy what others had.
Owning a bike felt like a luxury. New clothes came mostly during festivals. Every expense was discussed before it was made.
But somehow...
Our school fees were paid. Our books arrived on time. Our education never stopped.
Today, both my brother and I work in metro cities.
People often see the result.
Very few see the source.
The source was a small village kirana shop. The source was my mother's patience. The source was my father's consistency.
My parents still live in the village.
Even today, when they visit the city, they start missing home within a few days.
Because their world is not made of malls, traffic, and tall buildings.
Their world is made of familiar faces, simple conversations, and the small shop that has been a part of their life for decades.
That old photo reminded me of something important:
Many successful stories don't begin in big houses.
They begin in small shops. Small villages. Small dreams.
And behind many educated children, there is often a father who worked without taking a day off and a mother who quietly sacrificed her own comforts.
