Emotions are a part of the human experience. Without them, what different would we be from robots right? We spend a lot of time trying to either suppress or downplay an emotion that makes us uncomfortable. That’s mainly because in the minds of most people emotions are either “good” or “bad”. The truth is that ALL emotions have an important role to play in adaptation. It’s important to feel the negative as well as the positive to have a more holistic understanding of the world and ourselves. Feel all your feelings! ✨

Verbal abuse can be a bit tricky to spot. Believe it or not, but most people that are being verbally abused aren’t aware of the fact that they’re on the receiving end. When we think about verbal abuse, screaming, cursing or shouting only comes to mind. But this kind of abuse also have a subtle side to it.

Any kind of abuse usually involves power plays. One person usually attempts to control or hold power over the other. The dynamics in the relationship are extreme and not at all equal.

Verbal abuse can impact a person in a number of ways. The individual’s concept of self is slowly being beaten down until they start thinking lowly of themselves, have low self esteem and start believing that they deserve this kind of treatment. It can cause chronic stress, feelings of low mood, shame and guilt, and in extreme cases it can cause PTSD, depression and even lead to substance use.

Codependency is referred to as a learned behaviour in which there is a reliance on another person in some emotional, spiritual or physical capacity. Codependency can be observed in any kind of relationship and is most often seen in dysfunctional families.

It’s identified as a learned behaviour because it can be passed down from generations by watching and imitating other family members who display this kind of behaviour.

It was first defined after studying the interpersonal relationships of families of alcoholics. Attention and energy focus on the family member who is ill or addicted. The co-dependent person typically sacrifices his or her needs to take care of a person who is sick. When co-dependents place other people’s health, welfare and safety before their own, they can lose contact with their own needs, desires, and sense of self.

Aaah I just finished watching the reunion episode and waves of nostalgia came crashing on me! This got me wondering though-whether nostalgia, this bittersweet feeling, can help us in any way. Turns out nostalgia is a very future oriented emotion and can better our present and our future selves in more than on way. ✨

Speaking from personal experience, as I turn a year older each year, I find myself looking back with more and more fondness when I come across something that triggers my nostalgia. Sometimes it’s when I’m cleaning my room and I find some trinket that reminds me of a person I was once friends with. It’s around the corner when I go through my childhood home videos and pictures. Sometimes the smell of a perfume can evoke a memory so strong that it feels like yesterday. ✨

Nostalgia to me is a warm hug after a long day. Something that makes my heart happy. How would you describe nostalgia? What makes you nostalgic? Comment down below! ✨ @ Pune, Maharashtra

Intellectual humility is a virtue that doesn’t develop overnight. It takes a lot of introspection and self reflection to cultivate over time. We as humans really love to be viewed by others as smart and intelligent. But it’s important to remember that the human brain is flawed and we are prone to blind spots.

In our world of binaries, opinions are shot back and forth in very aggressive manners. We are expected to fit in a certain group or category, and defend it to a cause. This divide discourages actually listening to the other side and having respect for they might believe. There are chances they have a few points that you may have overlooked.

Our world promotes and rewards overconfidence and arrogance. At the same time, if we make an error out of ignorance, the world doesn’t let us forget it. These two opposite circumstances are exactly why we require more intellectual humility around us. And no, this will not create a population of pushovers or people that are generally weak.

The more you know highlights the more you don’t know. ✨ @ Pune, Maharashtra
