🔷1. Motor Function Markers
These tell you how well the patient can move.
Muscle strength (e.g., using MMT grading)
Tone (spasticity, flaccidity — often assessed with scales like Modified Ashworth Scale)
Coordination (finger–nose test, heel–shin test)
Voluntary control and selective movement
🔹 2. Functional Outcome Measures
These are key in neuro rehab.
Balance → Berg Balance Scale
Mobility → Timed Up and Go Test
Independence → Functional Independence Measure
They show real-life ability, not just impairment.
🔹 3. Sensory Markers
Proprioception
Light touch, pain, temperature
Neglect or sensory inattention (common in stroke)
🔹 4. Cognitive & Perceptual Markers
Especially important in stroke, TBI:
Attention, memory
Spatial awareness
Apraxia, agnosia
🔹 5. Gait Markers
Step length, cadence, symmetry
Use of aids
Walking speed (e.g., 10-meter walk test)
🔹 6. Neuro-Specific Scales
Depending on condition:
Stroke → NIH Stroke Scale
Parkinson’s → Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale
Spinal cord injury → ASIA Impairment Scale
🔹 7. Red Flag / Medical Markers
Always monitor:
Level of consciousness (e.g., Glasgow Coma Scale)
Vital signs
Sudden neurological deterioration.
