Expecting twins? Knowing the exact type of your twin pregnancy is crucial!

In Dichorionic twins, each baby has its own separate placenta and amniotic sac. But in Monochorionic twins, both babies share the same placenta.

This means they share the same nutrition source, which can sometimes lead to unequal blood flow and uneven growth.

Because of this, Monochorionic pregnancies are considered high-risk and need close monitoring.

Always find out your exact twin type early in your pregnancy to ensure the best care for your babies!

What To Do If A Genetic Abnormality Is Detected In A Fetus?

βœ” Genetic Counseling: We help you deeply understand the medical condition.
βœ” Two Approaches: Many conditions can be easily managed by pediatricians after birth!

Termination is never the first option. We first confirm the diagnosis using advanced tests like Amniocentesis. However, if the genetic issue is severe, termination may be discussed as an option.

Book your consultation for proper diagnosis that empowers you to make the right choices.

High BP in pregnancy isn't just about the mother!

When high blood pressure leads to preeclampsia, it restricts blood flow to the placenta. This means your baby gets less oxygen and fewer nutrients, which can slow down their growth or cause low amniotic fluid.

Regular Ultrasounds and Fetal Doppler scans are vital to check your baby's growth and blood flow. Always keep up with your scheduled scans!

Did you know that over 80 percent of genetic disorders appear in babies with perfectly healthy parents?

Even without a family history, genetic testing is crucial in three main situations. We recommend it if the maternal age is 35 or older, if there are structural defects in ultrasounds or a history of miscarriages, or if parents are silent carriers of conditions like Thalassemia. Advanced tests like NIPT or Amniocentesis help safely confirm that your baby is internally healthy.

Did you know your baby's brain starts developing before your pregnancy test even comes positive? πŸ‘ΆπŸ§

Here is why Folic Acid is essential:
βœ” Early Development: Your baby’s neural tube (which eventually becomes their brain and spinal cord) must fully close within the first few weeks of pregnancy.
βœ” Why Folic Acid Matters: Without folic acid, the body lacks the essential building blocks required to seal that tube seamlessly, leading to severe neural tube defects like Spina Bifida.
βœ” Timing is Critical: Because structural growth happens so early, starting the supplement after a positive test is often too late.
βœ” Up to 70% Prevention: Starting a daily folic acid supplement while you are still trying to conceive can prevent these devastating defects by up to 70%!

Always consult your doctor before planning a pregnancy to start the right supplements.

Can a simple fever during pregnancy affect your baby?

Infections that seem minor in daily life need extra attention during pregnancy! Certain infections, known as TORCH infections, can cross the placenta and impact your baby's development if left untreated.

Never ignore symptoms like fever, rashes, or urinary discomfort, and avoid self-medicating. With timely blood tests and advanced scans, a Fetal Medicine Specialist can detect issues early and safely protect your baby!

Had the privilege of delivering a talk on "Nine Months, Lifelong Consequences – Maternal Obesity and Fetal Programming" during a Diabetes and Obesity conference today.

The journey of lifelong health begins long before birth. Maternal obesity is not just a pregnancy concernβ€”it influences fetal development and can shape a child's future risk of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, neurodevelopmental disorders and other metabolic diseases through the fascinating concept of fetal programming.

It was a pleasure to discuss the latest evidence, practical clinical implications, and the importance of preconception and antenatal care with fellow obstetricians, physicians and healthcare professionals.

Grateful to Dr. Reema Kashiva ma'am, Noble Hospitals and the entire organising team of D&O conference for the invitation.

Together, let's continue to promote healthier pregnancies, healthier fetuses and healthier generations.

Honoured to have been invited as a faculty at the One-Day CME on Fetal Echocardiography at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, Hyderabad.

It was a privilege to share my thoughts with fellow radiologists, and fetal medicine specialists on:
πŸ«€ Fetal Left Heart Lesions
πŸ“ˆ Fetal Cardiac Functional Assessment
πŸ“ Fetal Cardiac Biometry
πŸ” Interesting Fetal Echocardiography Cases from our clinical practice.

The engaging discussions, insightful questions, and exchange of experiences made these sessions truly enriching.
Platforms like these remind us that advancing fetal cardiac care is a collective effort driven by continuous learning and collaboration.

My sincere gratitude to Dr. Abhishek Arora sir, HOD Dept of Radiodiagnosis and organizing team at AIIMS Hyderabad for the warm hospitality and for the opportunity to contribute to this academic program.

Did your anomaly scan show a bright spot on your baby's heart?

Dr Tejas Tamhane explains that this common finding, medically known as an Echogenic Intracardiac Focus or EIF, is rarely a cause for worry. It is not a heart defect or a hole, but simply a tiny calcium deposit on the developing muscle. If your other genetic screenings like the Double Marker or NIPT are normal, this spot is completely harmless.

Your baby will be perfectly healthy and safe! Remember that not every complex medical term means a serious problem. Always seek expert guidance for true peace of mind.

CVS vs. Amniocentesis: Which genetic test is right for your pregnancy?

Dr. Tejas Tamhane explains how both tests accurately map your baby's 46 chromosomes in just 2 minutes! The main difference is the timeline. CVS is performed early (11 to 14 weeks) using a placental sample, while Amniocentesis is done later (15 to 20 weeks) using amniotic fluid. If your ultrasound shows any genetic risks, understanding these procedures is the first step toward caring for your unborn baby.
