I grew up in a family where there wasn’t enough transparency or openness, and where conflicts were often kept under the carpet.
Small things that could have been addressed were neglected. Resentments built up. And when conflicts finally surfaced, they often exploded, causing a lot of pain.
I paid a price for that. At 17, I had to grow up without much of a support system. And yet, something else carried me through: community. I could go to someone’s home. There were people around me who cared. I experienced, in some way, what it meant for a community to hold you.
That experience has stayed with me for years.
It became a dream: What if we could create families and communities where people’s voices matter, where conflict has a place, where children and adults feel safe, and where we take care of each other? It is with this question, that International Teal Family Retreat(ITFR) was born.
We explore empathy, honest expression, conflict, relationships, parenting and Nonviolent Communication(NVC), but beyond that we also look at the larger systems we are part of and how we can engage meaningfully with them.
People have gone back inspired to start their own projects, work on their growing edges and bring what they experienced into their families and communities. We continue meeting and connecting even after the retreat.
ITFR is a living laboratory for working on that possibility, ultimately, a place where we come as individuals and leave as a community. We will be at The Hidden Oasis, Pune from 15th to 21st January, 2027 on this sic day Residential Retreat
