What exactly happens during Microvascular Decompression (MVD) surgery?
MVD is a surgical procedure used for selected patients with Trigeminal Neuralgia, particularly when imaging and clinical evaluation indicate a blood vessel may be compressing the trigeminal nerve.
During MVD surgery:
🔹 The surgeon approaches the trigeminal nerve through a small opening behind the ear.
🔹 If a blood vessel is compressing the nerve, it is carefully moved away.
🔹 A small soft material may be placed between the vessel and nerve to help keep them separated.
🔹 The goal is to relieve the compression while preserving the nerve.
Whether MVD surgery is appropriate depends on the individual patient's symptoms, imaging findings, overall health, and previous treatment.

MVD is not automatically suitable for every patient. A detailed evaluation is essential.
