Ayurveda & Thyroid disease -

Hypothyroidism (Kapha and Vata Imbalance): Characterized by low metabolic fire (Agnimandya), which causes the accumulation of toxins (Ama) and blocks the body’s micro-channels (Srotas). This results in fat accumulation, sluggishness, and weight gain.

Hyperthyroidism (Pitta and Vata Imbalance): Overactive Pitta overheats the metabolic fire, leading to rapid tissue depletion, heavy sweating, nervousness, and weight loss.

Fire ritual / Homa / Agnihotra in Classical Ayurveda

In Charaka Samhita (Sutra Sthana, Chapter 11), Acharya Charaka describes three types of treatment:
Daivavyapāśraya (Spiritual therapy) , Yukti-vyapāśraya (Rational therapy) , and Sattvavajaya (Psychotherapy)

Under Daivavyapāśraya Chikitsa, he explicitly includes:
“Mantra, Maṅgala, Bali, Homa…”

This confirms that fire rituals such as Homa / Agnihotra were recognized within classical Ayurvedic therapeutics.

Ayurveda thus acknowledges healing at multiple levels — physical, psychological, environmental, and subtle.

🔺Ayurveda hasn’t been systemically organized the way modern medicine has. It never had large, dedicated bodies for data collection or structured research. Instead, it survived through individual practitioners serving society within their own capacity, usually in smaller community clusters.
🔹Things are changing now, with Ayurveda steadily emerging in R&D and pharmaceutical development.This is one of the real drivers of visibility and institutional credibility.
🔹In Ayurveda, as in life, not everything fits into a 1+1=2 framework. Statistics alone can never capture the full reality. There are tangible and intangible aspects, and documenting them in totality is extremely challenging. And if it isn’t captured in totality, it can’t truly represent Ayurveda, can it?
▪️Medicine doesn’t demand omniscience from clinicians, but it does demand honesty and a clear articulation of our role amid uncertainty.
