About Deep Tissue Massage Therapy
study!
In this case, there are two scenarios: one from the therapist's perspective on thinking and techniques for deep tissue massage, and the other from the client's side.
**Therapist's Perspective:**
Deep tissue massage is not just about applying high pressure using body weight, the entire hand, shoulder, elbow, or forearm. Giving pain to the client doesn't mean it's deep tissue massage.
**Client's Perspective:**
Many clients carry pre-conceived assumptions and demand limitless pressure until they're satisfied across the entire body. They won't stop until they get it because their minds are conditioned to equate deep tissue = high pressure. They're habituated to the same therapists who continuously apply high pressure without understanding the muscles' and tissues' actual requirements. Therapists often think a single session will eliminate all stiffness and rigidity.
It's crucial to understand the client's body type, muscle strength, and the appropriate pressure to apply. If a client has body pain or muscle aches from weightlifting or strength training, immediately jumping into deep tissue massage is not advisable—sore muscles can become more fatigued than normal.
I am a strong believer that muscle flexibility is true strength.
Sometimes, isometric stretching, exercises, and the best yoga asanas are perfect alternatives instead of directly jumping into deep tissue massage.
