Ooops I am Growing
WHICH PARENTING SUPERHERO ARE YOU?
A playful first look at your own patterns
Before you try to change your child's behaviour, pause and notice your own.
Because sometimes, our children are not the only ones who are growing. 🌱
There are no right or wrong answers. Choose what feels most like you—honestly!
1. When my child makes a mistake, my first reaction is usually:
🅰️ The Fixer: "Let me solve this for you."
🅱️ The Protector: "Oh no! I need to save my child from this."
🅲️ The Controller: "I told you this would happen!"
🅳️ The Coach: "Okay. What can we learn from this?"
2. When my child doesn't listen to me, I usually...
🅰️ Repeat myself... louder! 😤
🅱️ Give a long explanation.
🅲️ Threaten consequences.
🅳️ Stop and try to understand why they aren't listening.
3. When my child is upset, I tend to...
🅰️ Immediately try to make the problem disappear.
🅱️ Say, "Don't cry. It's okay."
🅲️ Tell them to calm down.
🅳️ Sit with them and allow the feeling to be there.
4. When my child chooses something different from what I would choose...
🅰️ I try to convince them to choose my way.
🅱️ I worry they may make the wrong decision.
🅲️ I feel irritated because they aren't listening.
🅳️ I let them think, choose and experience appropriate consequences.
5. When I compare my child with another child, I usually think...
🅰️ "Why can't my child be like them?"
🅱️ "I am worried my child will fall behind."
🅲️ "My child needs to work harder."
🅳️ "Every child has a different journey."
6. When my child shares a problem with me, I usually...
🅰️ Give advice immediately.
🅱️ Ask lots of questions.
🅲️ Tell them what they should have done.
🅳️ Listen first.
7. When I am stressed or tired, my parenting style becomes...
🅰️ More controlling.
🅱️ More emotional.
🅲️ More impatient.
🅳️ I withdraw and need space.
8. If my child fails at something, I feel...
🅰️ I must fix it quickly.
🅱️ Worried about what others will think.
🅲️ Frustrated because they didn't try hard enough.
🅳️ Curious about what the experience can teach them.
9. When I say "I'm doing this for your own good," I sometimes mean...
🅰️ "I know what's best for you."
🅱️ "I'm scared something may happen to you."
🅲️ "I want you to do things my way."
🅳️ "I want to guide you, but I also want you to learn."
10. The sentence my child hears from me most often is...
🅰️ "Let me do it for you."
🅱️ "Be careful!"
🅲️ "How many times do I have to tell you?"
🅳️ "What do you think?"
🦸♀️ YOUR PARENTING SUPERHERO
Now count your answers.
🅰️ THE SUPER-FIXER 🛠️
Your Superpower: You are helpful, involved and solution-oriented.
Your growth edge:
Sometimes children need the chance to struggle, try, fail and discover that they can do it themselves.
Ask yourself: "Does my child need my solution—or my support?"
🅱️ THE SUPER-PROTECTOR 🛡️
Your Superpower: You love deeply and want to keep your child safe.
Your growth edge:
Sometimes protection can quietly become overprotection. Children also need safe opportunities to face challenges and build confidence.
Ask yourself: "Am I protecting my child—or protecting myself from seeing them struggle?"
🅲️ THE SUPER-CONTROLLER 🎯
Your Superpower: You are responsible, organised and want your child to succeed.
Your growth edge:
When control becomes too strong, children may learn to follow instructions—but not always to think independently.
Ask yourself: "Am I raising an obedient child—or a capable human being?"
🅳️ THE SUPER-COACH 🌱
Your Superpower: You guide, listen and encourage independence.
Your growth edge:
Even the best coaches sometimes need to remember that children need connection before correction.
Ask yourself: "Does my child feel safe enough to come to me—even when they get it wrong?"
You may be more than one Superhero!
You might be:
🛠️ A Fixer when you're worried
🛡️ A Protector when you're afraid
🎯 A Controller when you're stressed
🌱 A Coach when you're calm
That's the point.
Our parenting patterns can change depending on our own emotions, childhood experiences, fears and beliefs.
🌱 The first step isn't to become a perfect parent.
The first step is to notice yourself.
Because...
When we understand our own patterns, we can begin to understand our child's patterns too.
Your parenting quiz rate card I will share in my next post.
