Cryopreservation: When time almost stands still ❄️🧊
At −196°C, oocytes and embryos are cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen, bringing cellular metabolic activity to an extremely low level.
But cryopreservation is not simply about “freezing and storing.”
Identification and traceability are equally critical.
Every cryovial must be safely and clearly labelled with essential identifiers such as:
• Patient name/unique ID
• Embryo grade
• Date of cryopreservation
• Number of embryos/oocytes stored
• Relevant cycle or storage information
Cryo-compatible markers and standardized labelling practices help maintain sample identity and traceability throughout storage.
And one important point: the duration of cryostorage is not a fixed universal number—it depends on applicable regulations, patient consent, and clinical circumstances.
Because in cryopreservation, what is stored is precious—but knowing exactly whose sample it is, is even more important. 🔬❄️
