A crown (cap) is recommended because it:
* 🦷 Protects the weakened tooth from cracking or breaking under chewing forces.
* 🛡️ Seals and protects the tooth from bacteria entering again.
* 🍎 Restores the tooth’s strength and function, allowing you to chew normally.
* ⏳ Helps increase the lifespan of the treated tooth.
Think of an RCT as treating the inside of the tooth, while the crown protects the tooth from the outside.
Without proper protection, a root-canal-treated tooth—especially a back tooth—can develop a fracture, sometimes so severe that the tooth may no longer be saveable.
👉 RCT saves the tooth. The crown helps protect that investment.
