First and foremost, we, the Shanti Sthal Management Committee, would like to wish all our social media viewers a Happy New Year 2025!
This year, we are delighted to announce the Maghe Sankranti Mela 2025, which will be held at the Ranipool Tata Stand from 7th January to 19th January 2025.
We deeply regret the unfortunate incident that occurred during last year’s Mela. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved family, and we extend our deepest sympathies to those who were injured. Taking lessons from last year, we have ensured that this year’s event adheres to strict guidelines provided by the concerned authorities.
To prioritize public safety, we have implemented measures such as sandbag barricades at the Mela’s entrance, strict adherence to timings set by the authorities, and enhanced oversight of all matters related to public safety. We are committed to organizing this event with honesty, sincerity, and utmost care.
While we regret the past incident, we firmly believe in the importance of preserving and passing on our rich culture and traditions to future generations. The Maghe Sankranti Mela holds deep sentimental value for the Sikkimese community, and it is our shared responsibility to keep this tradition alive.
This year, we have curated entertainment and activities for all age groups, ensuring that everyone—from children to senior citizens—can enjoy a delightful family outing. Highlights include:

**Awareness Program on Banned Single-Use Plastics (SUP)**

An awareness program on the ban of single-use plastics (SUP) was held today at Shanti Sthal, Jalipool, jointly organized by the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the Shanti Sthal Management Committee. The program emphasized the environmental harm caused by single-use plastics and synthetic khadas, particularly their adverse impact on marine life.

The Bazaar Officer spoke on the importance of reducing the use of these harmful materials and urged the public to adopt responsible waste disposal habits. He stressed the need for separating waste into dry, degradable, and non-degradable categories and encouraged everyone to maintain proper waste management practices at home to contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.

The event was attended by officials from GMC Gangtok, the GMC Councillor from Ranipool Ward, executive members of the Shanti Sthal Management Committee, and residents from the surrounding areas.

The awareness program effectively highlighted the importance of environmental conservation by banning harmful single-use plastics. Active participation and community cooperation are essential to ensure a sustainable and eco-friendly future for all.

**Meeting Update - Shanti Sthal Development Committee**

On 7th September 2024, an important meeting of the Shanti Sthal Development Committee was held at the Shanti Sthal Management Committee office in Jalipool. The Executive Body and committee members discussed key issues, including financial planning, procurement of office furniture, sanitation items, and other significant matters.

During the meeting, the official logo of the Shanti Sthal Development Committee was unveiled. Additionally, several respected individuals were added as new committee members. To further support the office, a staff member for cleaning purposes has been recruited on an honorarium basis, effective from 1st September 2024.

We are also grateful to Shri Sunil Agarwal, Treasurer (I), for his generous donation of an office table for committee use.

The meeting concluded with valuable suggestions from all members. The date for the next meeting will be shared in the official WhatsApp group.

**Gangtok Municipal Corporation and Shanti Sthal Development Committee Sign MoU for Crematorium Management**

**Ranipool, September 4, 2024** — In a significant development of Sikkim, under the leadership of Honorable Chief minister Shri P.S Tamang (Golay) and under guidance of Honorable area MLA Cum Minister Government of Sikkim, Shri Raju Basnet the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the Shanti Sthal Development Committee have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to oversee the management of the Shanti Sthal Crematorium Center located at Jalipool, Ranipool.

The MoU was formalized in a ceremony attended by notable figures including the Honorable Mayor of Gangtok, the Deputy Mayor, the Ward Councilor of Ranipool GMC Ward, the Commissioner, the Joint Commissioner of GMC, as well as the President and the executive body of the Shanti Sthal Development Committee.

This agreement marks a collaborative effort between the municipal authorities and the local development committee to ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the crematorium center. The partnership aims to enhance the facilities and services provided at Shanti Sthal, addressing community needs and improving the overall management of the crematorium.

The signing ceremony underscored a commitment to better serving the residents of Ranipool and surrounding areas, fostering improved public health and sanitation standards. Both parties expressed optimism about the positive impact this collaboration will have on the local community.
