A good father does not have to love every idea his daughter has.
What distinguishes him is that he responds with curiosity, respect, and confidence in her ability to make decisions.
He leaves room for her individuality.
Some things such a father might say:
"Tell me what excites you most about this."
"You've clearly put a lot of thought into it."
"Walk me through your vision."
"I can see why this appeals to you."
"You know yourself better than anyone."
"Even if I would do it differently, I want to understand your approach."
"What kind of life are you hoping this business will create for you?"
"What do you think the biggest challenges will be?"
"How can I support you?"
"Would you like my opinion, or do you just want me to listen right now?"
"I have some concerns, but I trust you to think them through."
"You don't have to do things the way I would."
"It's your life, and I want you to build something that feels meaningful to you."
"You have good instincts."
"You are capable of figuring things out."
"If this doesn't work, you'll learn something valuable and try again."
"I believe in you."
"I'm proud of how creative and determined you are."
"You don't need my permission to pursue your dreams."
"Whatever happens, I'm in your corner."
When a father consistently speaks this way, his daughter learns:
My thoughts matter.
I am allowed to be different from my parents.
Mistakes are survivable.
I can trust myself.
Love does not depend on agreement.
