A new study published in Neurology India highlights important gaps in India’s stroke research landscape. The analysis reviewed stroke clinical trials registered from 2007 to July 2025, identifying 2,102 records, 578 interventional randomized controlled trials and 560 trials conducted in India, while finding uneven research activity across states and calling for broader regional representation, stronger public-sector participation and greater collaboration.

Better stroke research can help build stronger evidence for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation strategies tailored to different regions of India.

New research in multiple sclerosis (MS) highlights the potential importance of early treatment choices. 🧠

A 2026 study of 509 people newly diagnosed with MS found that those who received B-cell–targeting treatments had fewer relapses and a small reduction in new MRI lesions over two years.

However, the study was observational, and there were no significant differences in disability scores or blood markers of nerve damage. Treatment decisions should therefore be individualized based on disease activity, MRI findings, risks and patient factors.

Early diagnosis and timely neurological care remain essential in managing multiple sclerosis.

AI is opening new possibilities in neurological care. 🧠

KEM Hospital Mumbai has initiated a pilot project exploring AI-assisted analysis of MRI, CT and EEG data to support the assessment of brain disorders and changes in brain function after surgery.

The goal is simple: help doctors identify important patterns more efficiently and support timely clinical decision-making. AI is a support tool—not a replacement for a neurologist’s clinical judgment.

Follow genuine neurology updates and stay informed about advances in brain health.

Important accuracy note: the generated image states that India launched a “National Initiative for Epilepsy Care in 2026.” I could not verify that specific claim. A genuine 2026 development is that AIIMS Guwahati launched dedicated epilepsy surgery services, including long-term video EEG and multidisciplinary evaluation, for drug-resistant epilepsy.

AIIMS Guwahati has introduced epilepsy surgery services as part of its Comprehensive Epilepsy Program, marking an important step toward expanding advanced epilepsy care in Northeast India. Patients with seizures that remain uncontrolled despite appropriate medication may undergo specialized evaluation for epilepsy surgery.

Epilepsy can often be managed effectively with the right diagnosis and treatment. If seizures continue despite medication, timely consultation with an epilepsy specialist is important.

NEW GUIDELINES UPDATE
MIGRAINE PREVENTION

The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and American Headache Society (AHS) have released updated evidence-based recommendations for preventing migraine in adults.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

• Preventive treatment should be considered for people experiencing 4+ migraine days per month
• Prevention may also be appropriate when headaches significantly affect work or daily activities
• Newer options, including CGRP-targeting treatments, are now included alongside established therapies
• Treatment choice should consider effectiveness, side effects, cost and individual patient needs
• Regular follow-up is important to assess treatment response

Migraine is more than just a headache.
If frequent attacks are affecting your daily life, talk to a neurologist about preventive treatment options.

Neurology News 🧠

Chronic stress may affect more than your mental well-being. Research suggests that prolonged stress can contribute to higher blood pressure, inflammation and other cardiovascular risk factors associated with stroke.

Managing stress through regular physical activity, adequate sleep, relaxation practices, healthy eating and strong social connections can support better brain and heart health.

Neurology News 🧠

New research suggests that poor sleep quality may be linked to faster brain ageing and a higher risk of cognitive problems, stroke and dementia.

Good sleep is an important part of long-term brain health. Aim for 7–8 hours of quality sleep, maintain a consistent sleep schedule, limit screen time before bed, manage stress and avoid excessive caffeine late in the day.
