Diabetic retinopathy is an eye problem that can happen in people with diabetes. When blood sugar stays high for a long time, it damages the small blood vessels inside the eye. These vessels may leak or get blocked, which can slowly reduce vision.
In the early stages, there may be no warning signs. That is why regular eye check-ups are very important for every diabetic patient. If detected early, vision loss can often be prevented with proper treatment and good sugar control.
Keep your blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol under control, take your medicines regularly, and get your eyes examined at least once a year.
