Two cats
1. Doctor and
2. patient
And then entered the monkey.
Named Insurance company.
One of my friend's son needed minor orthopaedic surgery. Young boy, minimal risk. An experienced genuine orthopaedic surgeon can do it at any basic private set up. Total cost of procedure including anaesthetic, OT and other charges would be around 35000 INR.
The patient had cashless insurance policy. So went to a corporate hospital with cashless facility. Surgical procedure carried out by same orthopaedic surgeon. He will probably get his fees almost equivalent to private set up. Everything fine. Bill claimed to insurance company 175000. Additional nonclaimable charges were 35000. Paid by my friend cash.
Not to forget, the insurance policy was obtained after paying premium ###XX INR.
Due to claims, next year onwards, premium will be more.
That friend used insurance and got claim of 5 times private cost, in addition, spent private cost extra as non-claimable expenses and now onwards will pay more premiums. For a surgical procedure by same skilful person with similar result as private. Then what was the purpose of spending more money?
He thought for a while, before saying, "Facility and safety"
