The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC), Punjab, observed World Hand Hygiene Day 2026 at its New Chandigarh and Sangrur campuses on May 5. Promoting the global theme "Action Saves Lives," the event urged immediate and effective hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC) within both healthcare settings and public life.

The team actively engaged with patients and their relatives visiting the hospital, conducting an awareness drive to emphasize the importance of proper hand hygiene practices in preventing infections.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both patients and their attendants. Through this initiative, over 200 individuals were educated about effective hand hygiene techniques and their vital role in ensuring health and safety.

In his message, Director Dr. Ashish Gulia stated, "Mahatma Gandhi taught us to integrate cleanliness into our conduct so deeply that it becomes second nature. I urge all my colleagues and our patients to begin this journey by maintaining hand hygiene and teaching our children about its importance. इस आदत को इतनी मोहब्बत से अपना लें कि ये इबादत हो जाए..."
