What is Atrial Fibrillation?
Atrial Fibrillation is an irregular and often rapid heartbeat that occurs when the upper chambers of the heart beat out of rhythm with the lower chambers.
It can lead to blood clots, stroke, heart failure, and other heart complications if left untreated.
Symptoms of Atrial Fibrillation
Not everyone feels symptoms — but when they appear, look out for these warning signs 👇
🔹 Rapid, fluttering, or pounding heartbeat
🔹 Shortness of breath
🔹 Chest discomfort or pressure
🔹 Fatigue or weakness
🔹 Dizziness or fainting spells
Causes / Risk Factors
Atrial Fibrillation can be triggered by:
🔹 High blood pressure
🔹 Coronary artery disease
🔹 Thyroid disorders
🔹 Heart valve problems
🔹 Sleep apnea
🔹 Excessive alcohol or caffeine intake
🔹 Stress or aging
Treatment depends on your symptoms and underlying cause:
🔹 Medications – to control heart rate and prevent blood clots
🔹 Electrical Cardioversion – restores normal rhythm
🔹 Catheter Ablation – corrects abnormal electrical signals
🔹 Pacemaker / Leadless Pacemaker – helps maintain steady rhythm
🔹 Lifestyle Management – exercise, healthy diet, and stress control
