👁️ 𝗠𝘆𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲
The Himalayan Eye Institute successfully organised a Myopia Awareness Meet today at Ramkinkar Hall, Siliguri, bringing together doctors, educators, parents, students, and healthcare experts to address the growing concern of myopia among children.

The programme featured insightful discussions by distinguished resource persons including Sri Jayanta Bhowmick, renowned cricket coach; Sri Animesh Bose, naturalist and Founder of HNAF; Smt. Soma Dutta, international athlete; Smt. Sarbani Roy, psychologist; and Shri Tarun Maiti, social activist of West Bengal Voluntary Health Association.

Experts emphasised the importance of:
✅ Increased outdoor activities
✅ Reduced screen time
✅ Regular eye check-ups
✅ Healthy lifestyle and visual habits

Students from DPS Fulbari, Sri Sri Academy, Birla Divya Jyoti, Modi Public School, Siliguri Girls High School, Ankan Chetana Art School, Chitrankan Art School, and GD Goenka School actively participated in essay writing and poster-making competitions centred on myopia awareness.

বর্তমান সময়ে মোবাইল, ট্যাব, কম্পিউটার কিংবা বইয়ের মতো কাছের জিনিস দীর্ঘক্ষণ ধরে দেখার প্রবণতা শিশু ও কিশোরদের মধ্যে ক্রমশ বাড়ছে। বিশেষজ্ঞদের মতে, এর ফলেই অল্প বয়স থেকেই অনেকের চোখে দেখা দিচ্ছে মায়োপিয়া বা দূরের জিনিস ঝাপসা দেখার সমস্যা।
চক্ষু চিকিৎসকদের দাবি, প্রযুক্তির অগ্রগতির ফলে এখন মায়োপিয়া নিয়ন্ত্রণে আধুনিক চিকিৎসা পদ্ধতিও সামনে এসেছে। এর মধ্যে বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য 'অর্থো কেরাটোলজি লেন্স' বা অর্থো-কে লেন্স। Newspapers এটি এক ধরনের বিশেষ কন্টাক্ট লেন্স, যা রাতে ঘুমানোর আগে চোখে পরে নিতে হয়। ঘুমের সময় এই লেন্স কর্নিয়ার গঠনে ধীরে ধীরে কাজ করে এবং দিনের বেলা অনেক ক্ষেত্রেই আর চশমা ব্যবহার করার প্রয়োজন পড়ে না।
শিলিগুড়ির বর্ধমান রোডের ঝংকার মোড়ে অবস্থিত দ্য হিমালয়ান আই ইন্সটিটিউটের বিশেষজ্ঞ চক্ষু চিকিৎসক ডাঃ স্নেহা বাত্রা জানান, আধুনিক এই অর্থো-কে লেন্স বর্তমানে মায়োপিয়া নিয়ন্ত্রণে অত্যন্ত কার্যকর ভূমিকা পালন করছে। বিশেষ করে শিশু ও কিশোরদের ক্ষেত্রে এই প্রযুক্তি আশাব্যঞ্জক ফল দিচ্ছে। বিজ্ঞাপন তবে চিকিৎসকদের মতে, শুধুমাত্র আধুনিক লেন্স ব্যবহার করলেই দায়িত্ব শেষ হয়ে যায় না। চোখ সুস্থ রাখতে নিয়মিত স্বাস্থ্যকর অভ্যাস বজায় রাখা অত্যন্ত জরুরি। সুষম খাদ্য গ্রহণ, পর্যাপ্ত বিশ্রাম, মোবাইল ও স্ক্রিন ব্যবহারে নিয়ন্ত্রণ এবং নির্দিষ্ট সময় অন্তর চোখের পরীক্ষা করানোর মতো বিষয়গুলিও সমানভাবে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। বিজ্ঞাপন বিশেষজ্ঞদের পরামর্শ, অভিভাবকদের উচিত ছোট থেকেই শিশুদের চোখের যত্নের বিষয়ে সচেতন হওয়া, যাতে ভবিষ্যতে বড় ধরনের দৃষ্টিজনিত সমস্যার ঝুঁকি কমানো সম্ভব হয়।

বর্তমান সময়ে শিশুদের মধ্যে মায়োপিয়া (নিকটদৃষ্টি সমস্যা) দ্রুত বাড়ছে। পরিসংখ্যান বলছে—ভারতে প্রতি ৪ জন শিশুর মধ্যে ১ জন এই সমস্যায় আক্রান্ত। তাই এখনই সচেতন হওয়া জরুরি।
এই লক্ষ্যেই হিমালয়ান আই ইনস্টিটিউট আয়োজন করেছে “মায়োপিয়া অ্যাওয়ারনেস ইনিশিয়েটিভ ২০২৬”—একটি বিশেষ সচেতনতা সপ্তাহ, যেখানে থাকছে শিশুদের জন্য আকর্ষণীয় প্রবন্ধ ও পোস্টার প্রতিযোগিতা, বিশেষজ্ঞদের মূল্যবান পরামর্শ, এবং চোখের যত্ন নিয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আলোচনা।
