🤰 Anomaly Scan in Pregnancy - Everything You Need to
Know!
One of the most important ultrasounds during pregnancy is the Anomaly Scan (also called Level 2 / Target Scan). It is usually done between 18-22 weeks of pregnancy.
Why is it important?
Checks the baby's overall growth and development Detects any major structural abnormalities (heart, brain, kidneys, spine, limbs, etc.)
* Examines the placenta, umbilical cord, and amniotic fluid
~ Confirms baby's position and movements
*Helps doctors decide if extra care, monitoring, or treatment is needed
When should you do it?
• The best time is around 20 weeks - not too early, not too late.
• Too early → some parts may not be visible.
• Too late → limited options for intervention.
• Common patient questions:
? Will it harm the baby? - No, it's safe.
?Is it compulsory? - Highly recommended.
? Can it detect all problems? - No test can detect 100%, but it's the best tool we have.
* Remember: Anomaly Scan is not just a routine test - it's a window into your baby's health and gives parents reassurance as well as doctors crucial information for safe pregnancy care.
