Director SKIMS Monitors Treatment Facilities for Injured Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Pilgrims

Srinagar 29 July 2026: Director SKIMS & EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, is personally monitoring the treatment and healthcare facilities being provided to the injured Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims admitted at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, following the recent bus accident.

At present, 42 injured pilgrims are undergoing treatment at SKIMS, including 21 from Madhya Pradesh, 19 from Rajasthan, one from Assam and one from Uttar Pradesh. Director SKIMS has been closely overseeing their medical management and ensuring the availability of all necessary diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive services through a coordinated multidisciplinary approach.

The admitted pilgrims expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Director SKIMS, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, for personally supervising the treatment arrangements and ensuring the best possible medical care. They also appreciated the doctors, nurses and support staff of SKIMS for their compassionate care, continuous monitoring and quality treatment.

Mr. Vishwas Rathore, one of the injured pilgrims from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, expressed his satisfaction with the treatment facilities provided at SKIMS and praised the medical staff for their dedicated services, professionalism and unwavering support.

Another injured pilgrim, Mr. Eshwar Lal, also appreciated the prompt medical attention and excellent care being extended to the patients. "I am highly impressed by the immediate care we are receiving at SKIMS. Everyone is attending to us with great compassion and care," he said.

Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha and Hon'ble Minister for Health and Medical Education, Ms. Sakina Masood Itoo, visited SKIMS to enquire about the health of the injured pilgrims. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shri Anshul Garg, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Shri V. K. Birdi, MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali, and Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Shri Akshay Labroo, also visited the hospital and took stock of the treatment and healthcare facilities being provided to the injured pilgrims.

It is pertinent to mention that SKIMS has established a dedicated Emergency Services Ward for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra pilgrims and is maintaining close coordination with the Yatra Base Camps and allied agencies to ensure prompt medical assistance and specialised healthcare support throughout the Yatra period.
In addition, senior faculty members from various superspecialties at SKIMS are in daily coordination with the medical teams stationed at the Baltal Base Camp, providing expert clinical guidance and immediate specialist consultation whenever required. The SKIMS Control Room is functioning round the clock to coordinate referrals requiring specialised care, ensuring seamless transfer and timely management of patients at the tertiary care centre.

Update | SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina
Following the on-site inspection by Director SKIMS & EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, and his directions for immediate action, dewatering of the hospital premises has been completed. All clinical services have resumed and the hospital is functioning normally.
The Director appreciated the prompt and coordinated emergency response of all service and feeder departments in ensuring the swift restoration of normal hospital operations and uninterrupted patient care.

Director SKIMS Conducts Extensive Inspection of Waterlogged SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Orders Immediate Action and Long-Term Flood Mitigation Plan

Srinagar, July 20: Director SKIMS & EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, today conducted an extensive inspection of SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, following heavy waterlogging caused by incessant rainfall and inclement weather.

During the visit, Director SKIMS assessed the situation on the ground and reviewed the impact of waterlogging on patient care and hospital services. He expressed deep concern over the inconvenience caused to patients, attendants and healthcare workers, and directed the Principal, SKIMS Medical College, along with the Medical Superintendent, to ensure immediate restoration of normalcy.

The Director instructed the Engineering Wing to deploy adequate dewatering pumps and mobilize all available resources for the immediate evacuation of accumulated water from the hospital premises.

Emphasising that uninterrupted healthcare delivery is of paramount importance, Prof. Ashraf stated that recurring waterlogging in the flood-prone hospital campus requires a comprehensive and sustainable solution rather than temporary measures. He directed the Principal, SKIMS Medical College, to submit a detailed report within one week outlining the causes, immediate interventions and long-term mitigation strategies.

The Director also announced the constitution of a high-level committee to formulate a sustainable flood mitigation plan for the hospital. He said the recommendations of the committee would be taken up with the higher authorities to ensure permanent infrastructural measures are implemented to safeguard the functioning of the hospital during adverse weather conditions.

Director SKIMS reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted patient care remains the highest priority and assured that every possible measure will be taken to prevent recurrence of such situations in the future.

Director SKIMS Chairs First Training Session on Deployment of BHISHM Cubes to Strengthen Disaster Management and Emergency Preparedness for Amarnath Yatra

Srinagar, June 30: As part of its comprehensive preparedness for the annual Amarnath Yatra, the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) conducted the first training session on the use and deployment of BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita and Maitri) Cubes at SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina.

The training programme was chaired by the Director SKIMS & EOSG and conducted under the supervision of the Principal and Medical Superintendent, SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina. The initiative forms an integral part of SKIMS' disaster management strategy to strengthen emergency medical response, mass casualty preparedness, and critical care services during the Amarnath Yatra and other disaster situations.

A detailed demonstration and hands-on training session was conducted by the innovator and lead designer of the BHISHM Cubes, Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Dr. Tanmoy Roy, along with his team. Participants were trained in the operational features, deployment protocols, components, emergency applications, and critical care capabilities of the BHISHM Cubes to ensure their effective utilization during disasters, medical emergencies, and mass casualty incidents.

The programme was attended by Heads of Departments, faculty members, medical officers, nursing officers, and paramedical staff, who actively participated in the practical sessions. The training was aimed at enhancing institutional disaster management preparedness, strengthening emergency response mechanisms, improving interdepartmental coordination, and ensuring the seamless deployment of the BHISHM Cubes whenever required.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director SKIMS emphasized that disaster preparedness, effective emergency response, and continuous capacity building are essential components of a resilient healthcare system, particularly during large public gatherings such as the Amarnath Yatra. He appreciated the commitment and active participation of all healthcare professionals and reaffirmed SKIMS' resolve to continually strengthen its disaster management capabilities through regular training, skill enhancement, and adoption of advanced emergency response technologies.

In view of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, dedicated BHISHM Cubes have been strategically deployed at SKIMS Medical College-Hospital, Bemina, Shadipora Highway, and the SKIMS Main Campus to provide rapid critical care support and emergency medical services to pilgrims, while also serving as an important resource for disaster response and mass casualty management.

The initiative is aimed to ensure robust disaster management, emergency preparedness, and the delivery of timely, efficient, and high-quality healthcare services during one of the country's largest annual pilgrimages.
