~~Your report says '’high risk.'’ Suddenly, your entire pregnancy feels uncertain…" 💔~~
A couple came to me after their dual marker screening showed a high risk for Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome). Understandably, they had one overwhelming concern:
“Is our baby okay?"😶
A detailed fetal medicine ultrasound was performed which showed an echogenic intracardiac focus in the baby’s heart- usually harmless on its own, but when combined with a high risk screening result, warrants further evaluation.
The couple chose to proceed with **amniocentesis**, the gold standard diagnostic test for assessing the baby's chromosomes.
The procedure was performed under continuous ultrasound guidance at our centre, with every step focused on precision, safety, and patient comfort.
A few anxious days later, the report arrived…
The baby's chromosomes were normal.❤️❤️
This is exactly why fetal medicine is so important.
Not every high-risk screening result means that the baby has a chromosomal condition—but every high-risk report deserves expert evaluation, detailed counselling, and when indicated, access to definitive diagnostic procedures such as amniocentesis.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr Kriti Sharma for her trust, collaboration, and timely referral.
