๐ฐ NEWS UPDATE | Cancer Declared a Notifiable Disease in 19 States
In a significant step towards strengthening cancer surveillance and public health planning, 19 states and union territories in India have reportedly been directed to classify cancer as a โNotifiable Disease.โ The move can help authorities collect more accurate, region-wise data on cancer cases, identify emerging trends and improve screening, prevention and treatment strategies.
Why does this matter? Better data means better understanding of where cancer cases are rising, which populations are most affected and where healthcare resources and screening programmes need to be strengthened.
The message is clear: early detection, timely screening and greater public awareness remain critical in the fight against cancer.
