Before the Chair

Before I sit on this chair as a therapist, there is a lot that happens within me.
My own self-work, self-healing, reflection, and the courage to look at my patterns come first. Because how I show up in my life deeply shapes how I show up for my clients.

Becoming a mother has only deepened this understanding. Holding space for tiny humans while holding space for clients has taught me presence, patience, and humility in ways no textbook ever could. It reminds me every day that regulation, repair, and compassion begin at home - within myself.

This chair doesn’t just hold my clients’ stories.
It carries my lived experiences, my ongoing inner work, and my commitment to grow - so I can sit here with honesty, steadiness, and care.

Nervous system overload is a state where the body and brain are exposed to prolonged stress without enough recovery, causing the system to remain in survival mode for too long.

When this happens, the nervous system struggles to regulate itself. Instead of smoothly shifting between activity and rest, it gets stuck in fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown responses. This is not a mental weakness - it’s a physiological response to ongoing emotional, cognitive, or physical demands.

In overload, even everyday tasks can feel effortful, emotions may feel intense or blunted, concentration reduces, and rest stops feeling restorative. The body prioritises protection over ease, which is why people often feel “on edge,” exhausted, or disconnected without a clear reason.

Simply put:
Nervous system overload is what happens when stress outweighs safety and recovery for too long.

Looking back, I never knew how far I’d go. Moving to Surat after getting married was a big change—I didn’t know anyone in the new city, but I pushed through every challenge because I wanted to do something meaningful, something that would help me grow and contribute to the world around me. Mental health was often misunderstood, and there were tough moments. But every day, I focused on making the most of that day, striving to make it better than the last. Little by little, those small efforts made me stronger, bolder, and more confident. I followed my heart and trusted what I needed to do in each moment. Maybe I didn’t know exactly where I was headed, but I believed that by giving my all today, I’d get closer to my dreams in the long run. And that belief has carried me through.

I also knew that skill development was a key way to prevent mental health issues by helping people understand what they wanted and how to feel more confident and resilient in facing life’s challenges. That’s exactly what I focused on while mentoring students.

This award is for the dedication I’ve had since 2018, mentoring aspiring chartered accountants each month, helping them grow, build confidence, and live a more fulfilling life.
