Student Induction Programme (SIP) 2026 – Day 1, GCU-Tezpur | 18 August 2026

GCU-Tezpur campus warmly welcomed its new students with the inaugural ceremony of SIP 2026, featuring the GCU Anthem, felicitation of dignitaries, Lamp Lighting and Saraswati Vandana. The programme was convened and anchored by Ms. Shahnaz Alom, Convener, SIP-2026.

Distinguished guests Mr. Jasoda Ranjan Das, Prof. Abdul Baquee Ahmed, Prof. Jayanta Deka, Prof. Gour Gopal Banik, Prof. Sankar Chandra Deka and Prof. Debendra Chandra Baruah shared their valuable insights and inspiring words with the students.

Faculty members of GCU-Tezpur Ms. Debika Sarmah, Dr. Hemanga Hazarika, Dr. Supriya Sahu, Mrs. Chayanika Goswami, Mr. Damanbhalang Rynjah, Dr. Shilpi Gupta and Ms. Punamjyoti Das conducted informative sessions on academics, campus facilities, student support, clubs, mentoring and university regulations.

The day concluded with ice-breaking activities and interaction with senior students, creating a memorable and energetic beginning to campus life.

The National Anti-Ragging Week was successfully organized at the Girijananda Chowdhury University
(GCU), Tezpur Campus, Assam, specifically observed on 17th August 2026 under the guidance of Event
Convenor Dr. Supriya Sahu. The event aimed to promote a safe and welcoming campus culture while
reinforcing the university's strict zero-tolerance policy against any form of institutional harassment. The
schedule seamlessly combined informative talks and guidance with creative student engagement,
beginning with an opening address by student host Priyanka Sutar and an expert seminar by the
Principal Prof. Abdul Baquee Ahmed, followed by Dr. Asish Bhaumik.
Dr. Supriya Sahu addressed the new as well as old batch of students and delivered a talk on the consequences of ragging, creation of ragging free environment in the campus as well as deliberation of anti ragging squad for helping the newcomers if any such situation arises. Students actively expressed their commitment to a ragging-free campus through concurrent slogan writing and logo design competitions managed by Dr. Karobi Handique and Mr. Padmanath Pegu, followed by an impactful anti- ragging short film screening.
The first prize was secured by the group of students of B. Pharm 1st sem namely Debojit Paul, Dikhit Borah and Amarjyoti Das.
The second prize was secured by the group of students Nikita Newar (B. Pharm 3rd sem), Itsh*ta Das (B. Pharm 3rd sem) and Anchal Gupta (B. Pharm 1st sem).
The third prize was secured by student group of B. Pharm 5th sem namely Khusbu Shah, Jublee Borah and Elizabeth Plasma Toon.
In the slogan writing cometition with the same theme of creating awareness on ragging, the first prize was secured by Itsh*ta Das of B. Pharm 3rd sem, second prize was secured by Gitartha Baruah of B. Pharm 5th sem and third prize was secured by Twaritlekha Patir of B. Pharm 5th sem.
Total 24 students had participated in the slogan.

Celebrating India's 80th Independence Day of freedom, pride, and progress.
​Proudly marking our nation's milestone at the GCU Tezpur Campus with the hoisting of the National flag and speech by Prof. Abdul Baquee Ahmed followed by a speech from Mr. Farak Ali, Asst. Prof. A flag march was also held as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, participated by faculty members, staffs and students from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and School of Agriculture and Allied Sciences, GCU Tezpur campus.

Strengthening academia–industry collaboration through meaningful engagement! 🤝🏭

Bridging the gap between academia and industry is essential for fostering innovation, enhancing practical learning, and preparing students for the evolving demands of the pharmaceutical sector.

With this vision, an industrial visit was undertaken on 21st and 22nd July 2026 by Ms. Debika Sarmah and Mr. Sandipan Das, faculty members of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, GCU Tezpur Campus, along with Mr. Sourabh Mazinder, Training and Placement Officer (TPO), Girijananda Chowdhury University, to strengthen academia–industry collaboration.

The visit focused on exploring opportunities for student training, internships, industrial exposure, collaborative research, and knowledge exchange, reaffirming the University’s commitment to providing industry-oriented education and creating meaningful partnerships with leading organizations.

NSS Unit 3, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SOPS), Girijananda Chowdhury University, Tezpur Campus, observed the 12th International Day of Yoga: Yoga for Healthy Ageing with enthusiasm and active participation from students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. The programme was organized under the theme “Serve BRICS 2026: Volunteering for a Better Tomorrow.”

The event aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle through the practice of yoga. Participants performed various yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation exercises, highlighting the importance of yoga in maintaining overall health and reducing stress. The programme successfully created awareness about the benefits of yoga and encouraged participants to incorporate it into their daily lives for holistic well-being. The program was coordinated by Mr. Farak Ali, Programme Officer, NSS Unit 3.

NSS Unit 3 at Girijananda Chowdhury University, Tezpur Campus, enthusiastically celebrated World Environment Day 2026 under the theme "Inspired by nature. For climate. For our future". The programme conducted under “Serve BRICS 2026: Volunteering for a Better Tomorrow” event.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Farak Ali, NSS Programme Officer, who highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and the role of youth volunteers in fostering sustainable practices for a greener future.
The celebration was marked by a sapling plantation drive, inaugurated by Prof. Abdul Baquee Ahmed, Principal, Girijananda Chowdhury University, Tezpur Campus. Emphasizing the significance of tree plantation in combating climate change and preserving ecological balance, Prof. Ahmed encouraged students to become active custodians of the environment.
Following the inauguration, faculty members and NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the plantation programme by planting saplings across the campus. The activity symbolized a collective commitment towards environmental sustainability and the creation of a cleaner, healthier, and greener campus.

The event witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers, reflecting their dedication to environmental stewardship and community service.

NSS Unit 3 of Girijananda Chowdhury University, Tezpur campus, enthusiastically celebrated World Bicycle Day 2026 today under the theme “Cycling for a greener future". This programme was a part of "Serve BRICS 2026: Volunteering for a Better Tomorrow.”

The programme commenced from the SOPS Tezpur campus with active participation from NSS volunteers, students, and faculty members, promoting the importance of cycling for a healthy lifestyle and a sustainable environment. The bicycle rally concluded successfully at B.P. Tiniali, spreading awareness about eco-friendly transportation, fitness, and community responsibility.

The event reflected the spirit of volunteerism, unity, and environmental consciousness among the youth. Through this initiative, NSS Unit 3 reaffirmed its commitment towards building a healthier and greener tomorrow. The programme was coordinated by Mr. Farak Ali, Programme Officer, NSS Unit 3 with active support from Ms. Shahanz Alom and Ms. Debika Sarmah, Assistant Professor, SOPS Tezpur campus.
