Happy New YEAR..!!👂❤️
10-years-old patient with unilateral microtia is being posted for reconstruction surgery using costal cartilage. The patient has typically achieved sufficient chest circumference (at least 60 cm at the xyphoid level) to provide the necessary volume of 6th, 7th, and 8th rib cartilage for a durable three-dimensional framework.
The first stage involves harvesting the cartilage via a small chest incision, followed by meticulous carving to match a template of the patient's ear; this framework is then placed in a subcutaneous pocket.
The use of the patient's own tissue significantly reduces the risk of rejection and infection compared to other alternatives.
