πͺ Sitting All Day? Your Hamstrings May Be Feeling It! π¦΅
Many office workers spend 8β10 hours sitting every day. While sitting itself is not harmful, staying in one position for long periods with very little movement can affect your muscles and joints.
Your hamstrings are a group of muscles at the back of your thigh that help with walking, running, bending, and maintaining proper movement of your hips and knees.
When we sit for long durations:
β‘οΈ The hips and knees remain in a fixed position for hours
β‘οΈ The muscles may become stiff due to reduced movement
β‘οΈ Some people may experience tightness, discomfort, or reduced flexibility
β‘οΈ Weak glute muscles and a less active lifestyle can further contribute to movement problems
Common signs you may notice:
β
Tight feeling at the back of your thighs
β
Difficulty touching your toes or bending forward
β
Hip or lower back discomfort after sitting for long hours
β
Stiffness when getting up after prolonged sitting
What can you do?
β Take movement breaks every 30β60 minutes
β Walk for a few minutes during work breaks
β Stretch and mobilise regularly
β Strengthen your glutes and hamstrings
β Change your sitting position throughout the day
Remember: Your body is designed to move. Small movements throughout the day can make a big difference.
