Wrist Pain After a Fall or Sports Injury? Don’t Ignore It.
As a Shoulder & Sports Injury Specialist, I frequently see patients who present late with persistent wrist pain after what they believed was a “simple sprain.” One of the most commonly missed yet clinically significant injuries is a TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) tear.
What is a TFCC Injury?
The TFCC is a critical stabilizing structure on the ulnar (little finger) side of the wrist, essential for pain-free grip, rotation, and load-bearing activities. TFCC injuries are commonly seen after:
* Falls on an outstretched hand
* Sports involving twisting or axial loading (cricket, tennis, badminton, gym workouts)
* Repetitive wrist strain
Typical symptoms include:
* Persistent pain on the little finger side of the wrist
* Pain while lifting, twisting, or pushing
* Clicking or a sense of instability in the wrist
* Reduced grip strength
Why Early Diagnosis Matters
TFCC injuries are often mistaken for minor sprains and left untreated. Delayed diagnosis can lead to:
* Chronic wrist pain
* Loss of strength and function
* Long-term instability and early degenerative changes
Wrist Arthroscopy – Precision Treatment with Excellent Outcomes
With advances in wrist arthroscopy, TFCC injuries can now be treated through minimally invasive keyhole surgery. Using high-definition arthroscopic visualization, the tear is accurately identified and treated, allowing:
* Precise repair or debridement of the TFCC
* Minimal soft tissue damage
* Faster recovery and early return to work or sports
* Excellent functional and clinical outcomes
In my practice, arthroscopic TFCC surgery has consistently produced excellent pain relief, restoration of wrist stability, and high patient satisfaction, even in athletes and high-demand individuals.
A Message to Patients and Athletes
👉 Persistent wrist pain is not normal.👉 Not every wrist injury is a simple sprain.👉 Early specialist evaluation can prevent long-term disability.
If you or someone you know has ongoing wrist pain after an injury, seek expert care early. Timely diagnosis and modern arthroscopic treatment can make all the difference.
Strong bones and joints with safe return to activities and sports—that’s the goal.
