Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said, "Out of 20 state capitals, all the 10 samples of piped water drawn from Mumbai were found to comply with all 11 parameters, while other cities are failing in one or more."

Tap water in Mumbai is safe to drink, a study by the Union Consumer Affairs Ministry has found that the samples collected from the financial capital are compliant with the Indian standards for drinking water, according to a report.

ആയിരം ലിറ്റര്‍ വെള്ളത്തിന് (ഏകദേശം കിണറിലെ ഒരു തൊടി/ഉറ/റിംഗ്) 5 ഗ്രാം എന്ന കണക്കില്‍ ബ്ലീച്ചിങ് പൗഡര്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. ആദ്യമായി ഒരു ബക്കറ്റില്‍ ആവശ്യമായ ബ്ലീച്ചിങ് പൗഡര്‍ (വെള്ളമുള്ള തൊടികളുടെ എണ്ണം ഗുണം 5 ഗ്രാം) അളന്നെടുത്ത് കുറച്ചു വെള്ളം ചേര്‍ത്ത് അതിനെ ഒരു പേസ്റ്റ് പരുവത്തിലാക്കുക. ബക്കറ്റിന്റെ മുക്കാഭാഗം വെള്ളം നിറച്ച് നന്നായി കലക്കിയ ശേഷം 10 മുതല്‍ 15 മിനിറ്റ് വരെ ബക്കറ്റ് അനക്കാതെ വെക്കുക. മുകളിലെ തെളിഞ്ഞ വെള്ളം കിണറിലെ തൊട്ടിയിലേക്ക് ഒഴിച്ച് അത് താഴേക്കിറക്കി വെള്ളത്തില്‍ താഴ്ത്തി നന്നായി ഇളക്കിച്ചേര്‍ക്കുക. ഒരു മണിക്കൂറിനു ശേഷം മാത്രമേ ഈ കിണര്‍ വെളളം ഉപയോഗിക്കാന്‍ പാടുള്ളൂ.

Results of a study conducted to assess the sanitary conditions and groundwater contamination of an urban area in Trivandrum found that the sanitary conditions of the wells are a matter of concern, with 73% of the wells contaminated with coliform organisms.

The pH of groundwater is also found to be low as per BIS and WHO standards.
