🌸Since ancient times, our ancestors passed their best practices of holistic lifestyle to their next generations. Over a period of time they became a ritual that got integrated into their day to day life. These series of rituals are known as samskaras. They are connected with the major events of life such as pregnancy, childbirth, naming ceremony, education, marriage, etc. These samskaras enables us to live a complete fulfilling physical and spiritual life.

🌸Swarna Prashana is one of sixteen samskaras mentioned in ancient texts for paediatrics. It is an unique method to build long lasting health and intellect naturally without leaving any harmful side effects

🌸What is Swarnaprashana?
Swarnaprashanam is a Rasayana chikitsa and one among the Prashana or Lehana, for healthy infants in preventive and promotive aspects and, for diseased infants in a curative aspect.

🌸It is a unique method of immunisation which has been in practice since Vedic times and is still practised in several parts of India. Swarnaprashanam can be administered from birth to the age of sixteen to attain optimum therapeutic effects.

🌸What does it contain?
In Swarna Prashana we use shuddha Swarna-bhasma, shuddha Ghrita (pure ghee) and shuddha Madhu (pure honey) as ingredients. As per Ayurvedic texts, Swarna-bhasma is prepared by Putapaka method.

🌸Why is this recommended only for kids?
The first few months and years of life are important for the cognitive, emotional and physical growth of children. Scientific evidence suggests that if brain does not receive appropriate stimulation during the early years of life then it is very difficult to rewire itself at a later stage

🌿In Ayurveda, treatment is often understood through two types of therapies and two approaches to care.

🌿Two types of treatment

1. Shodhana
Shodhana means purification or cleansing. It aims to remove accumulated ama (metabolic waste/toxins) and aggravated doshas from the body. It is generally chosen when deeper cleansing is needed and is always decided after proper assessment of the patient’s strength, digestion, age, and health condition.

2.Shamana
Shamana means pacification or balancing. Instead of eliminating doshas from the body, it helps calm and restore balance through medicines, diet, lifestyle regulation, and gentle therapies. It is commonly used when the body needs support, correction, and gradual healing.

🌿Two approaches of treatment

1. Preventive approach
The preventive approach focuses on protecting health before disease develops. It includes proper food habits, daily routine, seasonal routine, sleep, exercise, stress balance, and mindful self-care. The aim is to maintain equilibrium and reduce the chance of illness.

2. Curative approach
The curative approach is used when a health problem is already present. Here the physician studies the person’s body constitution, symptoms, digestion, lifestyle, and stage of disease, then plans individualized treatment to restore balance and improve wellbeing.

🌿At Enliven Veda Ayurveda Family Clinic, treatment is personalized rather than protocol-based. After careful consultation and assessment, the doctor decides whether the patient needs a preventive, curative, shamana, or shodhana approach—or a thoughtful combination of these. Daily consultation along with treatment helps guide care according to how the body responds.

🌿Prameha is a broad disease entity described in Ayurvedic classics characterized by excessive and abnormal urination (Prabhuta Mutrata) along with turbidity or changes in urine (Avila Mutrata).

🌿Modern Diabetes Mellitus, especially Type 2 Diabetes, is often correlated with Madhumeha, which is considered an advanced form of Prameha.
Meaning of Prameha

🌿The term Prameha is derived from:
Pra = Excessive
Meha = Urination
Thus, Prameha refers to conditions involving excessive and abnormal urination.

🌿Ayurveda does not consider Prameha merely as a "high blood sugar disease." It is viewed as a systemic metabolic disorder involving impaired digestion, disturbed fat metabolism, excess body fluid accumulation, and Dosha imbalance.

🌿Therefore, management focuses on:
🌼Correcting metabolism (Agni)
🌼Reducing excess Kapha and Meda
🌼Improving tissue nourishment
🌼Preventing complications
🌼Maintaining healthy lifestyle habits

🌿In modern understanding, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus correlates most closely with Kapha-dominant Prameha progressing to Madhumeha, while advanced uncontrolled diabetes with weight loss and tissue depletion resembles Vataja Madhumeha described in Ayurveda.
