One moment, the mind may feel unstoppable—racing thoughts, unusually high energy, little need for sleep, rapid speech, impulsive decisions or extreme irritability.
Then comes the other extreme—deep sadness, hopelessness, loss of interest, fatigue, disturbed sleep and difficulty functioning.
That’s bipolar disorder: a condition involving episodes of mania/hypomania and depression, not ordinary emotional ups and downs.

WHO estimates that around 37 million people worldwide were living with bipolar disorder in 2021—about 0.5% of the global population.
The good news? Bipolar disorder is treatable. Evidence-based care can include medication, psychological interventions, psychoeducation, lifestyle support and regular monitoring. With appropriate treatment, people can recover stability and live meaningful, productive lives.

⚠️ Don’t label it. Don’t dismiss it as “just mood swings.” Don’t self-diagnose.
