Genomics reads biology through information. The Konark wheel reads time through light.
It is striking how often discovery begins with the same simple act: learning to read what we cannot immediately understand.
At KIIT University, Odisha, Dr Abhishek Sinha explored how that idea is taking us deeper into biology in his talk, “Precision, Intelligence & Innovation: From Reading the Genome to Programming Biology.”
We can now read the genome at remarkable scale. AI is helping us make sense of the patterns within that information. And as our understanding grows, we are moving towards something even more ambitious: using that knowledge to influence biological systems with greater precision through programmable therapeutics.
And perhaps the Konark wheel offered an unexpected footnote to the conversation.
Designed to read time through the movement of the sun, it is a reminder that progress often begins by finding ways to make the invisible readable.
Different eras. Different tools.
But perhaps the same human instinct: to look closer, find meaning and understand what is possible.
