Being a surgeon looks lucrative.. restoring vision in a single stroke.. solving problems which look so difficult..but as always there are two sides of the coin..it comes at a cost to the surgeon himself/herself.. responsibility of things said and unsaid..seen and unseen..the promise to restore the clarity comes at a cost of raised cortisol and heart rate..the stress evident in the greying of the hair and lines on the face.. years of toil and turmoil! Seeing a great outcome is like a reward..a labour of love and a prayer answered.
Would I ever be a surgeon again in my next life? The answer is yes and yes if it would help the patient see again! We leave aside the dilemmas of whether to operate or not as the wisdom of the experienced surgeon who doesn't look at money ( if the society overall is healthy and the patient is the prime concern as should be)
Happy surgeons week to all the hardworking and honest surgeons out there!

Observed annually on June 10, World Eye Donation Day serves as a reminder that even after death, a person can continue to illuminate another’s life.
Advances in medical science have significantly enhanced the impact of eye donation. Earlier, the corneas from a donor’s two eyes could restore sight to only two individuals. Today, with modern surgical techniques, different layers of a cornea can be used to benefit multiple recipients. Consequently, a single eye donor can help several people regain vision.

Not all vision problems begin with obvious symptoms. Frequent headaches, eye strain, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light are often ignored until they start affecting daily life. Wearing the right eyewear does more than improve clarity. It helps reduce unnecessary stress on your eyes and supports long-term visual health.

This National Eyewear Day, take a moment to prioritise your eyes. Visit Mungale Eye Hospital for a complete eye examination and expert guidance for healthier vision.

June is Cataract Awareness Month.

Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the world. Yet most patients walk in knowing everything about the surgery and nothing about the lens that goes inside their eye.

The lens is not a standard part. It is a decision that affects how you see for the rest of your life, whether you can read without glasses, drive at night, or need glasses at all. At Mungale Eye Hospital, the lens conversation always comes before surgery is scheduled.

This Cataract Awareness Month, ask the question before you agree to anything.

Chemical eye injuries require instant action to save your sight.

The first step is always the same: flush your eye immediately with clean water, continuously and without stopping. Right after first aid, get to an eye specialist. Permanent damage can set in faster than most people expect.

Know your risk. Common chemical hazards include:

- At home: Bleach, toilet cleaners, drain openers, ammonia-based floor cleaners, dishwasher tablets
- At work: Battery acid, cement and lime dust, industrial solvents, welding flux, fertilisers
- Personal care: Hair colour, chemical hair straighteners, nail primers

Do not wait for symptoms to worsen. With chemical eye injuries, every minute of delay costs vision.

We all buy items on sale, but check their quality, don't we?

- Was your eye pressure checked?
- Was your Retina evaluated ?
- When the cost of surgery is cut down from did you think how?

We all are looking at options which provide us affordable Eye Care and also good quality and maybe with a personal touch! Won’t you like it when the doctor addresses you by your name and remembers details in your case?
