Episode 13 — Paretin Dai | Ghost who became a goddess

Forgotten Goddess Series — Folk, lesser known and forgotten deities.

Paretin Dai is a revered folk goddess and village guardian worshipped in Chhattisgarh. Local traditions say that after a mysterious death nearly 100–200 years ago, strange events began occurring in the village.

People often reported seeing a woman beneath a ber tree. When the tree dried up, these incidents increased, leading villagers to plant a new tree and establish a shrine at the site.

Today, Paretin Dai is worshipped as a powerful protector deity (Kshetrapal), believed to safeguard the region, bless families with children, and protect newborns. Many devotees offer a child's first adornments to the goddess, and locals still pay their respects while passing her shrine.

A spirit. A guardian. A forgotten goddess transformed into Shakti through faith.
